Advantages: can see if your item is in stock

Disadvantages: can be very slow, can try before you buy

Argos has a very different shopping system to any other shop. Instead of walking around for what you want you simple look it up in one of the catalogs. You can check if you item is in stock by typing the code of the item into the store checker. You then have to go to a desk to pay. You get a piece of paper with you item number and which point you need to collect from (a,b or c) You then have to sit down and wait for your item to be called. Once its ready your number will be shown on a board and you can go collect your item. I have very mixed feelings about this.

Good points
You can check if your item is in stock rather then wandering round and finding out they haven't got it.
New catalogs come out each year so you can browse at home and write the number down making your shop quicker.
If your item is out of stock you can opt to get a text from Argos to tell you when its back in stop.

Bad point
Ive found Argos to be quite a busy shop and sometimes have to wait around for a catalog to be free.
If its a busy day you can be standing around waiting for your item to be ready.
I also like the freedom of being able to browse around a shop as i dont really go out for a particular item i just buy something if i like it.
Many of the stock checkers are broken (im my local shops they are) which means you will either have to find another free or queue up.

In 2008 i wrote a list of items i wanted to get and how much it would cost. When the 2009 catalog came out every single item in the whole catalog was more expensive then the 2008 catalog. I was really annoyed and couldnt buy all the items i wanted. Also with things like perfumes, make up and clothes, you can try before you buy. Also things like a sofa, i like to try my sofas to make sure there comfy. Overall if you see something in the catalog, see if its anywhere else, if not, you may as well go to argos.

Summary: its not for everyone
