Sofa order from Home Group (Argos/Homebase) - SIX week delay on top of EIGHT week lead time!!!

Disadvantages: Dreadful communication, shocking delay, terrible attitude and derisory offer of compensation.
NEVER order a sofa from Home Group (Argos or Homebase).
My wife and I ordered a sofa (brand new range, "Go Create" Castello corner unit) more than 8 weeks ago, in good time, since we have a baby due in late October. The order was scheduled for delivery on 12/09/11, yet we received a call late on Friday last week to inform us that the sofa would not be delivered until 21/10/11, some SIX weeks later!
After escalating my complaint directly to the CEO Terry Duddy, I have been offered £100 compensation IF I choose to accept the sofa, with this money only offered after the delivery, reduced to £50 if I choose not to keep it. Apparently I have not suffered any loss (and the 8 week wait to date is apparently not a big deal), nor is managing without a sofa for the next 6 weeks.
Their attitude is appalling and they really do not seem to believe that another six week delay is a problem. I could never recommend them.
As an aside, my neighbour who is an 86 year old woman, also ordered a sofa from them last month. Not only was that delivered two weeks later than advertised, the delivery team refused to unwrap it, assemble the two sections, nor put it in the correct part of the room. Apparently it is not their policy, 86 years old or not - you're on your own! This from a company that advertises the fact that is wishes to be known for offering the "best delivery service in the country". Epic fail!!
Summary: Argos/Homebase SHOCKING DELAY IN SOFA ORDER - AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!
