Advantages: value for money, great range, customer service

Disadvantages: can get busy

Hassle free shopping? Always a good idea in mine and anyone else’s book! Add to this a wide variety of items to choose from, low prices and good customer service and this can be summed up in one word – ARGOS.

I have been a fan of Argos stores for many years now. I find them extremely convenient, with a wide range of choice. So why do I remain faithful to this store? Here’s why.

~~ CHOICE ~~

Where do I start? Masses upon masses of items to choose from. From kitchen utensils to in-car stereos, toys, electrical goods, jewellery, gifts, mobile phones, clothing, you name it, Argos really does take care of it. Argos produce a lovely glossy catalogue in which all of these lovely goodies are wrapped up, which is updated twice a year. Practically everyone’s tastes are catered for, so even the most fussy of shoppers will find something to take their fancy. Pricing is also very, very good. A good example of this is the price they charged me for a watch I purchased. £149.99 recommended retail, Argos price £89.99. And NO, this was not a sale price. How I love retail therapy………..

~~ CONVENIENCE ~~

Catalogue shopping? Convenience in itself! The ability to have a good look at your items before you make a purchase is always a bonus. To do it from the comfort of your own home is always a benefit. The catalogue, apart from being extremely well laid out, is comprehensive, colourful and easy to follow. Also included in it are order forms enabling you to fill in all the relevant paperwork prior to going to your local store. Should you not be bothered in getting off your bum to go to the store, you can always pick up the phone and place your order that way. Marvellous! Items are normally delivered within a few working days. On some items, for example Home Computers, they will also install the system for you. You can also order from their clothing “Additions” catalogue and pay in store. Then
collect them 3 working days later. They even ring you up to let you know when they have arrived! Or you can order via their website. If you don’t have a PC, but have digital TV (SKY/Cable) you can order through your TV set as well. What a choice! Way to go Argos!

~~ PAYMENT METHODS ~~

An absolute plethora to choose from! Cash (my favourite!) is acceptable in all stores – no surprise there. Telephone ordering will accept all major well known cards – VISA, Mastercard, Switch, Solo, etc – and Argos also offer their own chargecard if your credit rating allows. The chargecard also offers many other benefits, such as Argos Premier points, allocated per pound that you spend. These can then be converted into Argos Vouchers to spend in-store. Nice little incentive scheme.

~~ CUSTOMER SERVICE ~~

Argos must be one of the few companies these days who continually provide excellent customer and after-sales service. The majority of their products are backed by Argos now famous 16 days money back guarantee. I recently ordered a pair of jeans from their “Additions” catalogue (their clothing section) which unfortunately didn’t fit. Upon returning them to the store my money was refunded and no questions asked. Excellent! When I purchased a watch from them last week they even offered to adjust the links free of charge, rather than go to a jewellers and pay for that service. I have always found their staff very helpful and approachable, maybe I am just fortunate, or maybe they’re just that damn good, who knows their secret. I am in awe!

~~ EXTRAS ~~

Argos also offer many additional extras. Extended warranties can be purchased. Insurance services are available. A helpline is available should you wish to make a query about your order. None of this “press option 57 for sales”. Straight through to a human being, no problem. Fast, friendly and above all HELPFUL.

It is very rare in this day and age that a company can continuously offer good all round service. It is always nice to say something positive about a company, and credit should be given where it is due. Argos, as the advert used to say, “really does take care of it”, and is worth shouting about. Check it out next time that kettle needs replacing, or those tatty old jeans need throwing out. You may just find what you’re looking for at a price that is definitely right. Good, well structured op. I don't think I have ever been into an Argos without having to wait for ages - especially around Xmas - nightmare!
