Advantages: Great prices
Disadvantages: Very busy at peak times
I recently visited an ASDA store (St Austell) to stock on items before a self-catering holiday.
I usually shop at Sainsburys as it is more convenient for me, but occasional stop-off at ASDA for any quick purchases.
On the most recent trip, we visited the fresh fish counter after running out of time to go to the local fishmonger. We purchased some sea bream which we could choose ourselves before it was placed in a clever sealed packaging that stopped any fishy odours from eaking out to the rest of aour food. The price was very reasonable considering sea bream can be very expensive in other supermarkets (About £3.50 each). The fish was noticeably fresh and when cooked provided us with a wonderful meal. I was really impressed with this fresh fish counter.
We also bought some pre-packed rump steak, which was equally impressive for the discounted price. We had our first BBQ of the year to cook the steak, and it remained tender and absolutely delicious!
My summary for this trip is that the pre-packed meat and fresh fish counter were, on this occasion, comparible to a fishmonger/butcher. Well done ASDA!
Summary: Pick your time and get a bargain!
