Advantages: Cheap, food which tastes at least ok
Disadvantages: Sometimes a long way from home
I first started shopping at Asda in my first year of university, as it was the closest supermarket to where I lived. However, these days I will actively drive past Tescos to do my weekly shop at Asda. I find that the prices and food at Asda are much better than at most other supermarket.
You can find branches of Asda in most major towns, although they don't have express stores like you get with Tescos or Sainsburys. Asdas are owned by Walmart, and many of the brands you get are the same in both shops, e.g George clothing.
As a single adult living alone, I find that I can do a weekly shop for around a tenner, unless I go crazy with the Tequila. Asda almost always have really good £1 or 2 for 1 offers. The clothes they have there seem to be ok, but aren't usually my style. The own brand food usually tastes ok, for example the own brand coco pops from tescos tast like cardboard, but the ones from Asda are actually palatable...! If you pop down to the shop after about 8pm, you often find bakery or meat items which have been discounted, despite the fact that many of the big stores are 24 hour.
Most shops also have electrical departments, which sell decently-priced DVDs. They also have cafes which have pretty cheap food, better for a snack after a big shop than a date or anything vaguely classy....
