Advantages: Excellent customer service
Disadvantages: none
For Christmas this year my husband kindly bought me a new iron (romantic devil that he is,)so I bought myself a new ironing board from Asda. The board itself was manufactured by a company called Minky, it was a huge lovely thing and cost me £20.00. One evening as I got it out ready to start yet another batch of ironing, it being only about the fourth or fifth time I had used it, I thought something dropped onto the carpet but couldn’t see anything, I set the board up, put the iron on it and the whole lot collapsed on the floor! It gave me a real shock! I gathered up my pieces of ironing board, of which there were now three, only to find the large bolt that keeps the legs on had completely broken off.I took it straight back to Asda who immediately gave me a refund, I also mentioned about my new iron, which was also damaged and on the spot they let me choose a new one to the value of £30.00. I was so impressed with the quality of their customer service and the fact that everything was replaced for me,even though this was not their fault! The board was collected from Asda by Minky and I received a letter of apology and, wait for it...a packet of pegs! So my advice would be to take things back to the place of purchase, especially a shop like Asda, rather than dealing direct with the company.Well done Asda.

- 18/04/01 Athanasius - I think you may be correct, but still it is all in the attitude isn't it. I have had service at other retailers before where it very definitely was the retailer's fault and they still made me feel like a worm when I complained. |

- 16/04/01 I have a feeling that they ARE responsible for everything they sell, even thoug they may not be the manufacturers. Good ol' Donahue and Stephenson (sp?) - the decomposed snail in the ginger beer bottle - that established that the retailer and not the manufacturer is liable for defective merchandise. |
