Advantages: cheap, friendly staff
Disadvantages: none
Even though I live nowhere near an Asda I still drive over there every month for food shopping because it’s so cheap. You will get twice as much for your money here! The nearest Asda to me is huge, massive. Apart from food they also sell clothes, magazines, music and videos. They also have offers each month on large electrical items which include video players, televisions etc. My favourite part of Asda is their take-away Indian and Chinese meals. You can buy meals depending on how many people are eating and all you have to do is heat them up – yum! I highly recommend these, taste just as good as an Indian takeaway. Apparently their pizzas are one of the best as well – I personally hate pizza but they do tend to put a lot of stuff on them when they make them. You get to choose what you have on there as well so can miss out anything you don’t like. Unfortunately I don’t each cheese or tomatoes which limits things when it comes to pizza. Asda also have a fresh fish counter which is unusual around here, I can’t think of any other supermarket with one. Stinks though, I hate fish. Do-nuts are also a very important part of Asda, they make them there in front of you so you have to buy some after you smell them. Always attempt not to drool on the food as well, very unhygienic. The staff have always been friendly in St. Austell store, and they serve quite quickly so you are not standing there for ages waiting. They also have bag packers helping little old ladies who can’t carry all of their cat food. The shelves are always kept well stocked, I have never been in and not been able to get what I want. The weekly/monthly offers are great, usually buy one get one free and there are loads of them. Stock up and buy in bulk! After shopping – which always makes me feel hungry – I suggest going into the café and having a meal in there. Very cheap prices for exc
ellent food and you get big portions too!

- 13/07/01 I agree the prices are good, but the quality isn't always (or maybe I'm just a Sainsburys snob - I have both nearby). Also aren't you just spending the money you're 'saving' on petrol if you live nowhere near one? Just a thought :) |

- 13/07/01 I like Asda too, and am prepared to drive to get there. The better offers seem to be in stores in non-affluent areas. There fresh produce is excellent value-for-money - I try to avoid the donuts, they are so addictive! |
