Advantages: Good range of products and cheap
Disadvantages: may be a fluke
As my league tables of supermarkets goes Asda is right down at the bottom, or at least it was. We have always had 2 Asdas in our town, and I would travel miles to avoid them. While one appears dirty, uninspiring with nowhere to park, the other is dirty, uninspiring with ample parking. Visiting either leaves me with nothing for tea!!! HOWEVER......being forced out of town away from my usual schedule I decided to do my weekend shop at an out of town Asda. Admittedly it was newish, and very big, but for me it was a completely new Asda experience. I was impressed by the range of convenience foods, and also by the meat section. When it came to main meals, I was stuck for choice and found the varieties a refreshing change. There were varous marinated kebabs and stir fry beef etc. I bought 2 exceptionally large fillet steaks which were excellent quality and very cheap compared to Sainsburys. The rest of the store was impressive in price, range of goods, and cleanliness. I have decided to give my local Asda a second chance. Maybe the impreesive range I discovered at weekend is only available at new Asda superstores. In which case I may be pursuaded to go out of town occasionally.

- 04/09/00 I haven't been in Asda for years as our only supermarket is Safeway (I don't like it but its about a fifty mile drive to the next supermarket!) I certainly remember Asda as being a bit dingy and uninspiring but if they have all had make-overs things could be looking up. |
