Advantages: Browse at home, good offers, good range of colours and make up

Disadvantages: Colours aren't always an exact match to the colour charts

I must admit that I do not have an Avon book on a regular basis, mainly because at the moment I can't afford to buy a lot of luxuries and just normally stick to the same items when it comes to cosmetics and skin care and most of these I buy from the high street. There are a couple of Avon favourites that I have found though and do order these through my boyfriend's Mum who always has a booklet. Glimmersticks eye pencil is one of my firm favourites and I couldn't do without it.

I do tend to look through the booklet when I am round her house and there are often loads of offers to tempt me into buying something. The models make up always looks so gorgeous and it tells you what products they have used to get the effects. I am getting wise to this though, because I know that a make up artist did up the models to look stunning and the photos have probably been airbrushed to make them flawless so I know that there is no way that it will look like that on me!

Avon do some fabulous colour eye shadows and a huge variety of make up in general as well as things like shower gels, bubble baths, perfumes and some jewellery and underwear too. The only thing with ordering shower gels and anything that has a smell to it is that you don't really know what it smells like. Sometimes there are scratch and sniff pages but they can only give you a rough idea. It is really pot luck whether you will like it or not. With things like this it is usually word of mouth that makes people order them as friends or relatives may recommend them to you.

All the colours that the lipsticks, eye shadows, bronzers, eye liners etc come in are on little colour swatches in the booklet which is great but I do find that I have ordered lipsticks in the past and the colours have not really been what I was expecting. I think that is why I stick to buying from the high street. Again, if you do hit it lucky with a product then it is more than likely that you will order it again, but I have sworn that I will never buy lipsticks from Avon again as the colours are just not what I expected. I did get an Avon lipstick free with a magazine once though and it was a great lipstick, it stayed on for ages and was a lovely creamy finish. My friend even commented on how nice it looked.

All in all, I think that Avon do some great products, and have some great offers on but it is often difficult to judge the colours correctly. You can return products to the Avon rep if you are not happy with your choice, but for me I find this too much hassle as you will have to wait another 2 or 3 weeks for your re order. It is easier to buy it from a shop.

Avon is a good idea and is a trusted company as it has been a success for many years. If you like cosmetics and make up and buy a lot of products then I would recommend having an Avon book, but if you are like me and only buy make up every now and again or when something runs out then it probably isn't worth having a book but it is nice to look through a friends every now and again if you want to treat yourself.
