Advantages: Beautiful fragrances
Disadvantages: Make up is rubbish and overpriced
As a huge Lush fan and follower, I was astounded when I first found out about B- I went into their Covent Garden store and was amazed by its' 'Aladdins-cave'-esque air. Such a beautiful, unique yet odd little shop, smelling stunning and selling the cutest and most delicate wares. I did treat myself to about £200 of make up, fragrance, soap, cleanser etc and was very excited to get it home.
I started off my B experiment with the cream eyeshadow/liners, in the form of the 'Ding Dong' Xmas special; a triangle box with about 22 half-sized tubes inside. A nice array of colours and matte/shimmer/glitters; I was excited to try them out. The colours work fairy well as liners, but as shadows, I would not recommend them. They are very easily creased and look a tad rubbish after a few hours wear...they flake and crumble easily. They also dry up and are impossible to get out of the tube after about 4 months of opening. A bit of a let down. So I tried the eyeshadow tubs...
They are sold in the most beautiful handmade tubs, but are so, so expensive (about £8/each). Again, the colour choice is whopping; brights, neutrals, neons you name it, but their quality is way below par. I am wearing Birdy right now, a bright blue, and it hasnt even lasted from 9 this morning- it's smudged and faded. Boo. The same has to be said about other colours I have tried, they just don't want to stay for long. :(
The mascaras are not worth bothering with- they flake so, so badly and so quickly. I bought the black one, used it about 4 times, then chucked it due to being fed up of being constantly referred to as Panda Eyes. Tut, tut, B.
Tried the Burlesque face powder, another waste of money, it cakes and sticks to and trace of natural facial oils, looking like you simply can't do your own make up properly. I promptly sold this to a friend, as she wanted to try it...Not sure how it worked out for her...
Having thoroughly not loved anything B up until now- I did try the 'Superworldunknown' fragrance, and that is amazing. Toffee, apples, candyfloss- it's lush. I bought the perfume and the body spray and this is one product I truly love. I do, funnily enough, also like the 'Love' fragrance; lemongrass and apples...A long lasting, sweet smell that I often get lovely comments about. These are very expensive though...but they are made with top quality essential oils, so I suppose I can't complain.
Please do go in and have a look around next tiem you're in London/Leeds, and I would definitely recommend their scents/sprays, but as for the make up...I am sticking with good old Barry M and Mac!
Summary: A beautiful store with beautiful smells- but thats about it...
