Advantages: Price, always in stock, quality

Disadvantages: website bit hard to navigate

B&Q DIY stores are Britains largest DIY superstore, B&Q was founded in 1969 by Richard Block and David Quayle, which is where it gets the name. Step into any nationwide store and you will notice that they are pretty much laid out the same making it easy to find the product you are after. The isles are split up by category, PLUMING, ELECTRICAL, PAINTS, HARDWARE etc and along the isle you will find the various sub categories. Most stores also have 2 outside areas, one for gardens, selling plants and garden furnature and another area for building hardware such as stones and wood.

Price wise B&Q seem to be very reasonable and always seem to have a sale on certain items so if you have a project planned e.g kitchen or bathroom it is sometimes a good idea to wait for the sales to come around which tend to come around 2 or 3 times a year, and can sometimes range up to 50% off. They also have a price promice wher if you find the same product cheaper within 10 miles they will refund the difference and give you an extra 10% back.

The quality of the products sold i find to be of a very good quality, you never have to search through the shelves to find a good item and they always have a good amount of stock in store.

B&Qs staff are always around to help too, they seem to employ ex trade people and they have a good knowledge of the products they stock, there is also a kitchen planning service and they can design your new kitchen and give you a list of the items you will need to complete the job yourself or can supply there own fitting service which i'm not able to ccomment on. A lot of the stores i have visited have a paint mixing service for dulux paints and can mix the paint you require for you on site in different quantities, this service is a little more expensive than off the shelf paints but i find it is worth the little extra because even tho it isn't advertised as one coat paint it seems to cover the walls very well.

Other services B&Q offer are a cutting service for wood including kitchen worktops, carpet cutting on site on stocked carpet, they also have carpet which can be cut to order and picked up from store at a later date. There is also a delivery service which at the moment 2/6/09 on upto 12000 items and free on orders over £50.

B&Qs website is also worth a visit as they advertise a lot of there offers on the home page, however i find it hard to look for exactly what you want and i find it better to just go to my local store and look just there.

On a whole i think B&Q is by far the best DIY store in Britain.

Summary: by far britains best DIY store

The rubbish website is a tactical ploy to get you to the shop, then if you take your other half with you, she will go off to the curtains/ paints/ bathroom section and you end up spending more money in store than what you would actually do on line. This works, believe me this works! Good review!
