Advantages: Good nursery decor.

Disadvantages: Can be more expensive.

I pop into Toys R Us every few weeks, primarily for a quick look around the Babies R Us department within. Babies R Us takes up a fairly small section of the store towards the back & tends to 'blend in' to the remainder of the store, rather than being totally seperate.

The store covers all the major areas of babycare, with the smaller essentials such as feeding, bathing, nappies etc stocked on shelves, then larger areas taken over by comprehensive displays of the larger items such as pushchairs, highchairs, nursery furniture etc. Most items are on display, so that you can see exactly what you are buying, although don't expect things requiring batteries to work, because in my experience they usually don't!

Should you decide to purchase one of the larger items, then you need to take a slip of paper from the price 'pouch' on the display item & take it to the counter where your item will be collected from the warehouse & brought out to you.

There is also a comprehensive pre-school toys section, & a fairly small baby clothing section. There are several nursery ranges in store, covering blue for boys, pink for girls & neutral creams for unisex nurseries. All are displayed in & on the furniture ranges, so that again you can 'try before you buy'. The nursery ranges are very comprehensive, including bedding, wallpaper borders, towels, storage, height charts, rugs....the list goes on! I'd say the store has the most complete list of co-ordinating nursery decor of any store/brand I have found.

Babies R Us isn't always the best value (especially for small essentials) - so do shop around. However they do have some reasonable discounts from time to time. I bought a highchair to keep at the grandparents house a few weeks ago, which was discounted from £40 to £20.

You can also join the Babies R Us club, which gives you a membership card to scan each time you shop there. Depending on how much you spend in a quarter, you then receive vouchers in the mail. These tend to be fairly useless to me at the moment - most vouchers are for money off toys for older children, but they do usually also include a £5 off a £30 spend voucher & a £10 off a £50 spend voucher which is great value.

In my opinion, the quality of 'own brand' items is not always the best, but most of the items on sale here are brand items anyway (Fisher Price toys, Mclaren pushchairs etc). I don't often buy from here, but it's a good place to visit & look at the items you're thinking of buying, before finding them on the internet at a lower price!

Summary: Big tacky store, but worth a look to try before you buy.
