Advantages: fantastic customer service, great range of products

Disadvantages: Its not cheap, but I don't think its a place you would go to get something cheap!

Beaverbrooks

Beaverbrooks is a high street high end jewellery store, selling, well, designer jewellery, including watches. They also have a website - www.beaverbrooks.co.uk

I recently visited Beaverbrooks with my parents as I was browsing for a designer watch to buy my now-husband as a wedding present. The majority of the products were displayed really well on the outside of the store so that you can browse freely. I looked at various different designer brands including DKNY, Gucci, Dior and D&G.

An Armani watch caught my eye and I went inside to ask to look at it.

The shop interior is classy and expensive feeling without feeling at all intimidating like some high end jewellery shops can.

The staff sat us down in a comfortable seating area and offered us drinks (a first for me in a jewellery store - but I don't look at hundreds of pounds worth of jewellery every day!). It was brought to us in a display box, but they weren't squeamish about us handling it. After a few minutes of looking at it, I explained that I really liked it but wanted to run it by my future brother-in-law. The staff were not at all pushy, and provided me with some information on their insurance policy should I buy a product from them. They understood really well that whilst this might just be a sale for them, for me it was an extremely special present that I wanted to last forever.

The next time I went back was to view it again and ultimately buy it. Once again I was asked if I wanted a drink and made comfortable. I was not rushed and all of my questions were answered well, particularly as I was toying with the idea of buying insurance or not. Eventually I decided to and went to pay. The watch was beautifully packaged - the box was wrapped in tissue paper with metallic confetti and a lovely sturdy, albeit large bag secured with a ribbon.

My husband was thrilled with his watch. I did end up having to go back to the store as a tiny screw fell out of the catch after a couple of days of wear. The staff were very apologetic, and slightly bemused that this had happened. This was very reassuring as I was quite upset that it had happened as I had obviously spent a lot on the watch and it had emotional worth. On looking at it, they toyed with sending it away to Armani to be fixed, but as this would take up to 4 weeks and it was so new - they instead decided to take off the whole catch and replace that with a catch on an identical model they had in their window - thereby making the problem theirs as they would now have to obtain a new catch from Armani. My husband and I were so impressed with this, as we know that they didn't have to do this.

I noted on the wall of the shop that Beaverbrooks is listed as one of The Times Top 100 Companies To Work For. Given that the customer service that we obtained was some of the best that I have ever encountered, I am not surprised and this must obviously rub off on their staff. I have nothing but good things to say about them, and would recommend them as my first choice for high end jewellery in future.
