Advantages: Reasonable Price
Disadvantages: Bed supports under the middle of the bed
We have just purchased a Bensons bed from Debenhams in Gloucester. We had been looking for a reasonably priced bed fro our daughters bedroom for some time and had our eye on a lovely cream metal framed king sized bed (Lily) on dispaly in the store.
Customer Service.
It took us a while to find a member of staff, but eventually we were helped by a young man who seemed to know what he was talking about, especially when it came to matresses. There was no hard sell and we even went off and had a coffee and a chat before going back. We made our choice and the sales assistant took us through how the delivery process worked and arranged the date for us.
Cost
The bed frame was reduced to £169 with £100 off the original price- very reasonable. The matress was more expensive at £349 (and that was a more basic model!). However we had looked around over several months and this still seemed quite a good price. I do think you get what you pay for with furniture, but we couldn't afford to go to the more up market stores.
Delivery
No problems. Delivered on the correct day within the time slot. I had been sent a text to remind me that the order was coming. The delivery guys were friendly and took all the bits upstairs.
Assembly
My husband and I usually come to blows over flat pack or DIY! The bed was quite easy to put together (no shouting), but we did have to get our kids to help. The instructions were straight forward. If you can do IKea, then this was OK! It took us about 45 mins to assemble the bed completely. The only strange thing was that the bed has two legs or supports in the middle - this means you can't store a great deal underneath. We hadn't noticed this in the shop.
One happy daughter!
Problems!!
We had two lots of guests to stay this week (bed 3 weeks old) -
the bed is for our daughter who is only nine, but she has to move out when we have visitors. We joked that our guests would have to give a score on how comfortable the bed was...
Visitors set 1 - "there was a little roll together!"
Visitors set 2 - " it was like sleeping on a moutainside!!"
After this comment we thought we had better check this out, only to find a cross bar buckled at the head board end. None of our guests were large and there is obviously a weak spot in the bed design. Any way my husband phoned Bensons customer service department to complain. They were very helpful and took the part code. They sent a new bar ( infact all the parts to 'redo' the base , except the slats) within 24 hours. No questions or charges. We were quite impressed with this level of service.
This prompt action has left us feeling positive towards Benson Beds.
Summary: An attractive bed at an attractive price.
