As summer is on its way, it's time to sort the garden out. We wanted to buy some plant pots, plants, gravel and other bits and bobs. Searching google for local garden centres, we found Bents, just off the A580 between Glazebury and Leigh, it was close to home and seen the perfect place to sort our garden out.
Bents garden centre is in Cheshire and has just won the prestigious Garden Centre Association annual award for 2010, they offer a huge range of products, including garden furniture, plants and flowers, food, crafts, home ware, and all gardening tools.
The centre has a huge car park which is free so you never have to worry about finding a parking space.
You start off inside the main building, this is full of outdoor furniture; dinning sets, gazebo's, water features & much more. There is a small pet shop which sell fish and other animal related products. They offer a huge range of gardening tools including forks, spades, hand held equipment and also clothing to wear whilst gardening.
All of the outdoor plants are kept in a huge glass building, it is just like a gigantic greenhouse; this is excellent as even on a rainy day you can still go looking round without getting soaked. What I like about the plants, is that they are guaranteed for five years! This is great for us as we don't have much luck with plants and they usually end up dead a few months after planting them. The plants are a bit on the pricey side, but the guarantee makes them worth it, there are plenty of staff available to give advice and are all very knowledgeable.
There is a garden design service there, we haven't used this but the idea is very good and the pictures of previously designed gardens look fantastic.
After you have a good look round the centre, you will probably be feeling a bit peckish; Bents have one of the best café's I have ever been in. The range of food they offer is astonishing for a garden centre, you can have something as small as a slice of cake right up to a full meal such as lasange. All the ingredients are fresh and locally sourced and the end result is great food. I will say, the café is very expensive, a sandwich can cost up to £7.50, so if you are a family your bill soon racks up a bit.
There is a small shop which sells a good range of home made jams, honeys, sweets, nuts; plus a lovely chocolate counter offering lots of hand made chocolates. In Bents you don't go hungry!
As we bought a lot of plants, way too many to fit in our cars, we were very pleased with what Bents can offer. For two hours, you can burrow one of their vans, there is no charge for the service and they also cover the fuel costs too. If you don't fancy driving a transit van, they will also deliver too. As well as delivery, for a charge, they will even plant them in your garden!!
Bents really is a one stop for all your gardening needs, we don't bother with any other garden centres now we have found Bents. Even if you live a fair distance away, if you are in to gardening you could easily make it a day out.
You can see a fair bit of information on their website, www.bents.co.uk
