Bents Garden Centre - Christmas is on its way! (Review written October 2010)
I know - it is only just October but soon a special treat will be available. This is an occasion like no other and it will be available during the run up to the Festive Season. The display I am describing is the 'Christmas Extravaganza' that will be available to witness and browse within Bents Garden Centre at Glazebury near Warrington - very soon, if not already!
Apologies if you are reading this in the Spring and Summer months - but I can tell you now that come Winter you will have something to look forward to seeing with your own eyes.
Bents Garden Centre has won 'Best Garden Centre' 2010 and that ,perhaps, gives you an indication of what to expect when visiting this immaculately presented gem.
Situated on Warrington Road, Glazebury, Cheshire WA3 5NT
Telephone No 01942 266 300
On your arrival at Bents Garden Centre you will find the car park you should be able to park easily as they have an adequate amount of parking space which extends to the side of the main building.
The outside appearance is well presented, aesthetically pleasing, clean and invites you to step in and browse.
The staff are numerous and efficient. I find them to be very welcoming and helpful too. The atmosphere is always nice when I have visited but especially during the Festive Season as everyone is in the seasonal spirit and often there are festive characters dotted about the store!
This place is just awesome - immaculate in every way from products to windows to displays to staff members and the layout and display design just takes my breath away - there is a lot of effort goes into making this centre a joy to visit.
A WALK AROUND TOUR
I am just overwhelmed when I first step foot into the porch because from the word go my eyes are attracted to stunning display after display of ornate and beautiful goods - you walk through an area of ornaments and they are so different and unusual. Some are expensive and others reasonable but all are just beautiful. Next is a handbag and jewellery section which is set within glass cases and manned by elegant female staff who are only too happy to assist in showing you a particular item. As you continue on the path through this amazingly attractive maze of paths you will encounter a wonderful fragrant section and this is the candle area! Your nose is in for a treat! My favourite brand - Yankee - are included in the selection and a good range of holders. Next are kitchen ware items and pictures and pieces of furniture - really exquisite. In between displays are artificial flower displays which are so lifelike and gorgeous and pretty expensive but add to the privilege of browsing this store. Around the store are Edinburgh Mill clothing, Pets Store and Garden equipment and wild bird section which have lots of lines on offer. There is a luxury food section which is incredible and another clothing range too. House plants are a plenty and are so high quality! Just beautiful, then outside you have a huge choice of top quality trees and plants and herbs - once again you only have to ask for assistance and you will get it. There are also topiary and Sauna equipment to inspire your dreams - and stunning water features like I have never seen before! Just to add - if you purchase a plant from Bents you will get a 5 year guarantee! When you arrive near the checkout section you will discover a large selection of books and DVD's CD's and Calendars - an amazing selection - and high quality unusual cards.
WE HAVEN'T EVEN GOTTEN TO THE CHRISTMAS DISPLAY BIT YET BUT I NEED A DRINK!
Then fear not you have certainly arrived at the best place to rest up. I sometimes visit Bents for the Restaurant alone! Yes it is that good - in my experience it is very satisfying indeed. You can serve yourself or at a little extra cost you can seat in a waitress area. I self serve as it is no problem unless it is at a busy period then it can be nice to take a seat and let someone else bring your refreshments to you. On offer is high quality warm food and cold food, cakes and various treats and of course coffee, tea and cold drinks. Yes it is a tad more expensive than alternative places but the standard of food is wonderful and you get plenty. Then you can choose from a large area of tables in different locations which are normally very clean and the area well staffed and kept up to date with table clearing and tidying. Highly recommended!
Udate December 2010
If you like cakes and sweet treats then you will be in heaven here, there are many many high quality and tempting delights for you. The choice of savouries including gluten free and vegetarian was good and I can recommend to you the hearty vegetable and barley soup - scrummy and warming and came with a very generous amount of bread - almost half a loaf I am sure! Was divine!
VISIT THE TOILETS IF ONLY TO LOOK
First impressions on entering the toilets is that I have entered a calm Zen like area and it is just lovely. Lots of clean and uber modern toilets, lots of clean and state of the art hand wash and Dyson dryers! and mirrors! a big thumbs up for this company these loos are spot on!
Well you have to save the best for last don't you - give it a bit of a build up!
The display is situated in the centre and expands outwards - you don't know where to begin really as there are not just a few great tree's dotted about for you to see - gosh no! Bents set up a large number of virtual rooms which house a tree of a particular colour which is decorated in a complimenting shade or shades and then around the room you have shelves and baskets and displays of the most incredible Christmas ornaments I have ever seen! It is just so magical and you see the expressions on the faces of people both young and old - they literally 'light up' - it really is very special and a lot of effort has gone in to making this a really incredible experience for all. There are traditional trees, trees of less common colour eg black, purple and even pink! there are white ones - you really would be better listing what they haven't got on offer as the amount of choice is huge. It is like walking into a world of fantasy and the little pathways are all twinkling and sparkling with the different kinds of lights that you can purchase - what I really like is the fact that if you wanted a colour change for you tree decorations you can go and see a display and see exactly what it would look like. This place brings out the child in me and I just love it - it is a real treat and one that I am eagerly awaiting this year. I believe that people travel from all areas just to witness this display and soak in the wonderful atmosphere and who can blame them as you can easily make a day of it here as all the facilities and departments make it a great place to be.
Updated December 2010
Wow Wow Wow! The designer has excelled this season - it is absolutely awesome, the amount of work both creatively and physically that goes into these Christmas displays is incredible. In particular and a real favourite is a London Bus room display with red white blue theme and a real retro Beatles type feel to it, it is just amazing! Also the tableware and table set ups with different colour arrangements are spellbinding - well done to the Bents design team you really did make our day a special treat!
LETS CONCLUDE OUR VIRTUAL TOUR
Well I do hope that this review and special tour has been of help to you - I have done my best but if you would like to know more I can add to it.
Would I recommend a visit to Bents Garden Centre? An absolute YES without any hesitation. The place has a huge car park, it is immaculate, it has lots of departments and high quality products. Plants come with a 5 year guarantee and staff are helpful and pleasant. The facilities are second to none. A tad expensive but a wonderful experience and there is normally an ice cream van outside too.
Go for it - and let your inner child run free between the Christmas tree's.
Thanks for reading.
As summer is on its way, it's time to sort the garden out. We wanted to buy some plant pots, plants, gravel and other bits and bobs. Searching google for local garden centres, we found Bents, just off the A580 between Glazebury and Leigh, it was close to home and seen the perfect place to sort our garden out.
Bents garden centre is in Cheshire and has just won the prestigious Garden Centre Association annual award for 2010, they offer a huge range of products, including garden furniture, plants and flowers, food, crafts, home ware, and all gardening tools.
The centre has a huge car park which is free so you never have to worry about finding a parking space.
You start off inside the main building, this is full of outdoor furniture; dinning sets, gazebo's, water features & much more. There is a small pet shop which sell fish and other animal related products. They offer a huge range of gardening tools including forks, spades, hand held equipment and also clothing to wear whilst gardening.
All of the outdoor plants are kept in a huge glass building, it is just like a gigantic greenhouse; this is excellent as even on a rainy day you can still go looking round without getting soaked. What I like about the plants, is that they are guaranteed for five years! This is great for us as we don't have much luck with plants and they usually end up dead a few months after planting them. The plants are a bit on the pricey side, but the guarantee makes them worth it, there are plenty of staff available to give advice and are all very knowledgeable.
There is a garden design service there, we haven't used this but the idea is very good and the pictures of previously designed gardens look fantastic.
After you have a good look round the centre, you will probably be feeling a bit peckish; Bents have one of the best café's I have ever been in. The range of food they offer is astonishing for a garden centre, you can have something as small as a slice of cake right up to a full meal such as lasange. All the ingredients are fresh and locally sourced and the end result is great food. I will say, the café is very expensive, a sandwich can cost up to £7.50, so if you are a family your bill soon racks up a bit.
There is a small shop which sells a good range of home made jams, honeys, sweets, nuts; plus a lovely chocolate counter offering lots of hand made chocolates. In Bents you don't go hungry!
As we bought a lot of plants, way too many to fit in our cars, we were very pleased with what Bents can offer. For two hours, you can burrow one of their vans, there is no charge for the service and they also cover the fuel costs too. If you don't fancy driving a transit van, they will also deliver too. As well as delivery, for a charge, they will even plant them in your garden!!
Bents really is a one stop for all your gardening needs, we don't bother with any other garden centres now we have found Bents. Even if you live a fair distance away, if you are in to gardening you could easily make it a day out.
You can see a fair bit of information on their website, www.bents.co.uk
