Advantages: still convenient to get a game or movie quickly

Disadvantages: out of date & expensive

Blockbuster Video is primarily a video/dvd rental shop which also deals with game rentals and also sells a selection of chocolates and sweets.

--- How It Was ---

Blockbuster was my first stop for a video...yes a video, it isn't that long ago they were the best and most popular format available. They seemed at one time to be a bit like Mc Donalds and Starbucks with one in every town.

They were relatively well priced with membership being free and often offers on such as 3 for 2 etc. It was highly convenient as you could walk in, grab a movie and walk out with it to watch that night without having to buy it outright, then simply return it the next day by dropping it through the door and you're done.

--- How It Is Now ---

Nowadays to me Blockbuster Video is stale. Despite keeping up with the latest formats by renting PS3 games and Blue Ray DVDs it seems expensive to me and although selling pre-owned games, even these seem to all be expensive.

The problem is, with sites such as Lovefilm popping up, they are much more affordable and even easier to use by having movies posted directly to you.

The concept for Blockbuster Film was and is still a good one, movies and games to rent with refreshments for a perfect night in with a movie right there but with the current economic climate it's an expensive night in. Even the refreshments are often expensive which ultimately makes me walk a few extra steps to the local Spar or off-licence.

Additionally the use of the word 'Video' sounds dated, as minor an issue as this may be, it connotates the 90's not 00's. Shape up Blockbuster or you wont last.

--- Summary ---

A once fantastic place to rent games and movies feels stale after no updates in branding or its outlets and seems out be getting more expensive without delivering better quality.

Summary: Update the image, drop your prices and you'll be back on to a winner Blockbuster
