Blockbuster: A cheap family night in! (Blockbuster)

Advantages: Some great offers, lots of choice.

Disadvantages: Long queues at times, quite high fees on single rentals.

Some aspects of this review may be based on my shopping experiences at Blockbuster, Harlow.

Our local Blockbuster is massive and one of the biggest that I have seen, it is located at Staple Tye shopping area in Harlow, Essex.

The store has lots to offer from DVDS, Games, Sweets, Food & Drink and the store is very well laid out.

As you enter the store there are lots of buckets with bargain games and DVDS available for purchase and then all around the outside edge of the store is the DVDs that are available for rent from the latest blockbuster to more classic films & it's great that things are set out by Genre as well as by release date etc and each section is very organised so it is easy to go straight to the film that you are looking for (well, I find it easy anyway).

Within the middle of the store there are lots of console games to rent & buy and they also purchase console games and then sell them as pre-owned. There are lots of offers available within this area and there is normally at least one console available to test out, I believe it is currently a PS3. This is great as it's a good source of entertainment for the little ones while you browse for your ideal purchase.

There are a few drinks fridges selling Coke, Fanta etc and also a freezer selling Haagen Dazs ice cream and a few other nice chilled things. Also, as you are queueing for the tills (long queues at times) there are lots of buckets here filled with sweets & popcorn and they quite often have special offers on such as 2 DVDs, ice cream & popcorn for £10.00 and I think that some of these are great if you are looking for a cheap family night in.

Although the queues can sometimes be fairly long it never takes more than 5 or so minutes to get served and they are usually very prompt (especially when it comes to taking fees!).

I find the staff to be very helpful, they are very knowledgeable with regards to the layout of the store and always more than happy to help with finding something.

Overall I think that the store is very well laid out and while some of the rentals can be expensive it's a fairly cheap family night in and definitely cheaper than purchasing the DVDs yourself (especially if you aren't actually going to like the film!).

To rent out DVDs you will need to sign up for a Blockbuster card and this is fairly easy with ID and proof of address and it is free of charge.

I am rating Blockbuster 4/5 and have knocked off one stars because of the fees and the queue length.

Summary: A great place to stop and rent a film and hopefully save yourself a few quid.
