Advantages: choice
Disadvantages: price
Blockbusters are the one store that have really survived the ‘digital sky’ revolution. Since Sky introduced their Digibox, with video-on-demand (almost), most rental shops have been hit hard due to that fact you can ‘rent’ a movie without leaving your house. However, aggressive pricing, and a complete range of titles has seen blockbuster survive and even make a nice profit on the back of these troubled times, and good news it is too… Soon to realise that DVD would take of in the huge way it has, they quickly endorsed the product, and introduced it into many of their stores, a very tidy trick to drum up some extra business. Always first with the new releases, and PLENTY of copies too, Blockbuster are never short of a copy of your favourite film. In the unlikely event that they are, their ‘price promise’ states that if you can’t get a copy of a movie you want, you can have it free next time! This applies to DVD’s and Videos, and I have taken advantage of this offer in the past, and they are indeed true to their word. Prices of films range from £1.00 to £3.5 for new releases, with the rental periods being anything from 5days to overnight. This depends on the title. In addition to the above, Blockbuster also rent console games. Including Dreamcast, Playstation and Playstation 2 titles, in addition to selling them new and their peripherals. Add to that the fact they often sell games, videos and DVD’s as ex-rental stock, at lower prices, and there are the of bargain to be found. While they are not the cheapest, they certainly have the best choice, and I have very little reason to fault them.
