Greeting earthlings. My name is Melanie and i am an employee at Blockbuster Videos. I am often called to work at ungodly hours and smile to everyone for at least 7 hours non-stop. This is my op helping all you poor customers who are lost around the store because there are no employees awake enough to help. Please grab yourselves some popcorn and get comfy for a simple yet thorough guide :)

** BECOMING A MEMBER **
If you wish to become a member at blockbuster videos then you must be 18. If not, you can drag someone else along and have your name added to their card. Next, you will need to bring along the following as ID:
- A credit card (Visa, switch, Mastercard)
OR
- A utility bill dated within the last 2 weeks AND proof of your signature i.e a driving license or passport.

A DRIVING LICENSE OR PASSPORT ALONE WILL NOT BE COUNTED AS ID AND ONLY THE ABOVE ARE ACCEPTABLE.

At your local Blockbusters you should find a membership sign up desk. Get yourself over there and begin to fill out the blue membership form. An employee should start to head your way shortly. The whole process is very straight forward and within a matter of minutes they will print you out a card and hand you back your terms and conditions. You should also receive a welcome back containing some great vouchers. Please remember to use these as you can save a lot of money.

REMEMBER THAT JOINING BLOCKBUSTERS IS ABSOLUTELY FREE!

**SO WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I AM A MEMBER?**
If you have a good employee then they should introduce you to the store. If not, here are the basics you should know:

1. Every monday the videos are re-arranged to comply with the new rental chart. DO not be alarmed if you can not find that video which was in the corner and follow the guidelines:
At the top of the shelfs, from the right of the store all the way around to the left is the video chart 1-20. If you wish to take out a video which
is older than this or has become removed from the charts, look under the top 20. From the right to the left of the store are videos arranged in title alphabetical order starting with numbers and then A-Z. Remeber that if you are looking for something beginning with "the" i.e "The Negotiator" It will be under N for Negotiator.
Most blockbuster stores rent games and DVD's, the positioning of these rentals are exactly the same, chart at the top and then older rentals at the bottom in alphabetical order.

2. If you still can not find your video then do not panic. We have a place for the oldies, ones that have been around for years but are too good to get rid of i.e "free willy". These are situated at the middle-back of the store in categories.
- Action/martial arts
- Horror/ Sci-Fi
- Drama
- Comedy
- Family Favourites/ Childrens
They have a great selction of classics all in alphabetical order in the appropriate sections. Beware though, the childrens section will always look like a bomb site at the end of the night and if you are looking for anything in particular, you may find it out of stock as there are only 2 or 3 copies available for old films.

3. Remember, Blockbuster video's doesn't just do videos! Depending on the store you visit, You can rent videos, DVD's and Playstation 1 or 2 games. This gives you a great oppurtunity to try out a game before you buy it. Not only that, you can buy movies and games for next to nothing thanks to the fantastic deals available. I would highly recommend going for the ex-rental copies rather than brand new ones as they are extremely cheap. At the moment you can get 3 ex-rentals for £15, these include hannibal, meet the parents, Vertical Limits etc. All great top name titles, make great presents and are guaranteed for 12 months. One thing i do like about Blockbusters is that you get a no mess service. If you
r video is faulty they will replace it there and then, no fuss.
Don't forget the deal is for confectionary as well, grab yourself some popcorn or haagen daz. See what the offer is and abuse it!

4. When you bring a video back, always stick it in the letterbox-looking hole on the outside of the building or the one as you walk in the entrance. DO not hand it to a member or staff and do not walk into the store - you will set the alarms off!

5. When you rent a video they should tell you what the cost is and when it should be back by. If you are worried about this before you get to a till then look at the cover box of the video you wish to rent. It should have a little coloured label with a price on. ALWAYS remember to take the video/game/DVD from behind the cover box. Check to see it if is the right one and how long you can have it for. Overnighter's have an overnight label on the front, the others are for 2 nights. Please remember that rentals should always be returned for 9pm, whichever day they are due back.

6. The costs of rentals are quite high and depending upon what you get this can range from 3.75 for a top title to £1 for a childrens classic. The only fall back is late fees. If your return your videos back late to blockbusters they will know and they will charge you. This is usually the cost of renting it another night per night.

**HOW TO GET A FREEBIE**
Blockbuster videos value there customers highly and wil rectify any complaints. Take a video home and tell them it didn't work. Next time you come in, there should be a comment on your account stating you are owed a free one. Say you saw the vid from a mates and you want a different one. Do beware though that if you do this too many times the comments on your account increase and they will become suspicious. This scam is sooo easy though and the service you will get from them is apologetic and friendly.

So, take me advice and
go grab a video. Look out for special offers and try to find videos that are on the price promise but not on the shelves. Last week, all 395 copies of Bridget Jones's diary went out and people were queuing up to order there free copy.

Blockbusters is a lovely place if you are nice to the people and by keeping your eye out you can grab a bargain or two as well. Any questions? Comment if there are!

ooh, insider info on freebies - just what I like. Where I used to work, any complaint no matter how stupid was met with an appology £5 voucher - unfortunately they knew my address, otherwise I would have made full use of it when I left... :)
