Advantages: nice maternity clothes
Disadvantages: a bit pricey
Being pregnant put you in a bit of a tight spot wardrobe wise. I don't want to wear a bin liner whilst I expand to the size of a small house, but going overboard on a wardrobe that is only going to be worn for about five months seems a waste of money. I never realised just how limited the choice of maternity clothes are. Few high street shops stock maternity clothes and those that do don?t necessarily have a maternity collection in all their branches. Blooming Marvellous is a bit of a godsend. Unfortunately there are only ten branches throughout the country. They have an internet site www.bloomingmarvellous.co.uk, where you can order items and see a range of their clothes. Half the stock is maternity wear, whilst the other half is baby wear. So it's very tempting to pick up some baby clothes whilst I?m looking for things for myself. The stores I've been in are a bit on the small side. The prices are a little bit over what I usually pay for clothes, but then I?m a bit of a cheapskate! Trousers are between £25 and £40. Simple t-shirts are about £13, whilst more 'fancy' blouses/tops are about £25. Some of the trousers are available in different leg lengths which is great for a short arse like me! The clothes actually look like something I might want to buy if I wasn't pregnant, which isn't the impression I go whilst looking at other maternity collections. The clothes actually look like normal shop clothes that are just a bit bigger. Size wise they do 10,12,14,16 and 16, whilst some of the items are available in small, medium, large and extra large. There is also a lingerie section, night ware and swim wear The baby clothes are extremely sweet (aren't all baby clothes) but in my opinion they're a bit overpriced and the range isn?t that extensive. An all over body suit costs around £12.99, which I think is a bit much for a small bit of material that is quickly grown out of. They have additi
onal items such as baby listeners, bibs, maternity pillows, a small collection of toys and novelty items such as cups saying I love my uncle. There is a mini marvellous range for the 1-5s which only seems to be available via catalogue and doesn?t seem to be available in the shops. So hurrah for blooming marvellous for me, but the baby clothes will be coming from somewhere else!

- 03/04/04 Thanks I like blue! Mothercare is cheaper than blooming marvellous, but it's still shocking what is charged for such tiny clothes! |
