Bonmarché is a budget clothing retailer that specialises in selling womenswear in a range of sizes mainly focusing on the fuller figure.
My previous visits to Bonmarché left me feeling disappointed due to the stock appearing to be aimed at mainly older shoppers. However, I have recently adventured into my nearest store and was delighted that the products are not only now fashionable, but they appear to have a wider range.
I have now visited twice in the past few months. My first visit was due to frustration as Evans, the only other pluz size clothing store in Uxbridge, didn't stock many dresses at all and especially none suitable for the summery weather. I took a chance by walking into Bonmarché, thinking that if they had any dresses, they would all be completely unsuitable for a twenty one year old. All I can say is, I was hugely mistaken. In fact, my husband ended up buying me two skirts and a dress. If we had more money, I would have purchased more dresses as there was plenty of choice!
The most recent visit was to purchase a pair of jeans. I usually buy my jeans from Tesco but they seem to wear out quickly especially if overworn, which I am guilty of. From my previous visit I hadn't noticed any jeans in Bonmarché, so it was wonderful to find that there was a whole section displaying several different rails of jeans, all with different designs on the pockets. I went into the changing rooms and tried on 3 pairs. The first pair was a size 22 which was a dark navy denham with a beautiful silver flowery pattern embroidered down the outer side of both legs. Second was a blue denham pair with an aqua pattern embroidered on each pocket, also in a size 22. The final item was a simple pair of jeans with a line embroidered on the back pockets. I tried all three on and found that the first two fit perfectly, if not a little spacious around the thighs but the third pair was too tight around the waist. Confused but relieved that the other two pairs fitted me in my usual size, I left the changing rooms.
Also what caught my attention was their underwear range. I fell in love with a pretty red padded underwired bra with a black print and lace trim. After a bit of searching, I found at the back of the rail was the matching briefs. I was over the moon that they stocked my size in both bra and briefs and made my way to the till with my new items in hand.
We were served almost immediately and the lady who was serving us, very helpfully pointed out there was a deal on the briefs that I had picked up. Mix and match 3 for £8, who could turn down that offer when they're usually £4 each. I hurried off to find more briefs which were in the deal, after a bit of searching I found a red pair and black that were both the same design, just different colours. I purchased these also.
With my husband now getting fidgety from waiting for so long and his pocket becoming lighter from my purchases, we headed out of the shop with a knowing that in future, Bonmarché will be the shop I go to first.
A few things I noticed which I would concider bad points about the shop is that on their jeans, they don't display the style of the jeans or the leg length. Also with their underwear, their items in the offer are not very easy to find. I had to literally search through every pair to find which was on offer.
Floral Beaded Jeans: £25
Embroidered Jeans: £20
3 Pairs Of Briefs: £8
Bra: £9
Overall, I would definately shop there again. I am curious about their website as the bag they put your purchases in says 'Shop with us at Bonmarche.co.uk'.
Summary: I'm in love with this shop!
