Book Shops - Tips & ComparisonNewest Review: ... I began my hunt in what would likely be the most expensive place: Waterstones. The sheer amount of books they have here is simply amazing. As well as the top sellers, there are thousands of other books, often from a very niche market. Books are organised by genre, and then alphabetically, with a selection on literally everything. I've been so impressed to find books on graffiti, mixed martial arts, the Sopranos and much more (never seen this range anywhere else). A nice touch of our local store is a 'our staff recommend' section, complete with a handwritten note about why that particular book is so good. The best thing about the shop... more |

The current credit-crunch means book-sellers are dropping prices like crazy, and that's lured me back! I have been getting a bit carried away with buying books this Easter, which led me to have a good think about where to buy. Over the last week, I've been all over the place looking for books, and I can best exemplify my findings with reference to two books I picked up today. Both are top-sellers, top charted and very popular, so this info really only applies to those types of book. This is something that has been driving me mad for years. I study psychology. I enjoy reading books on this subject. What I hate is going into the bookshops that just don't know how to organise the psychology section. Unless you go into a particularly large branch of Waterstones or Borders, the psychology section has nothing to do with psychology. Self-Help books abound and that really isn't anything to do with psychology. The section's should be appropriately labelled. If shops want to help customers they should label the sections honestly.
