A good bookshop needs to be accessible to all, well laid out and have a comfortable chair. Books Etc wins on all three points. I usually go to the shop in the Trafford Centre, and I nearly always buy something - even when I'm not looking. The shop isn't the biggest bookshop in Manchester by a long way, but it is well laid out. Everything is easy to find and I usually don't even have to look! When I go in, I can usually find what I want immediately, and more often than not something else catches my eye along the way. Then, while I'm pondering what to buy, I relax in their wonderful sofa. Books etc is one of those stores you just can't pass by. It's a fetish that has to be fed every once in a while. The staff in there are really helpful and always willing to rush of and find a title for you. I love the coffee shops they often have to recline and submerge yourself in your newly bought fantasy, be it a poetry book or political reading and drinking coffee cannot be compared to anything else. There is something about Books etc which makes it the only book store I will go into to smell the newly bound books awaiting attention on the shelves. There, I've said it upfront, so you should be able to guess that this is a positive opinion. I first enountered the chain in London late last year, and was delighted when I returned home to Manchester to see that we had one here too. Want to know what's so good about this chain? Here comes the list..... 1. They have literally hundereds of books in stock, and will order any in print for you if, on the rare occassion they don't have the one you're after.
