Borders and Books Etc.

A good bookshop needs to be accessible to all, well laid out and have a comfortable chair. Books Etc wins on all three points. I usually go to the shop in the Trafford Centre, and I nearly always buy something - even when I'm not looking. The shop isn't the biggest bookshop in Manchester by a long way, but it is well laid out. Everything is easy to find and I usually don't even have to look! When I go in, I can usually find what I want immediately, and more often than not something else catches my eye along the way. Then, while I'm pondering what to buy, I relax in their wonderful sofa. Books etc is one of those stores you just can't pass by. It's a fetish that has to be fed every once in a while. The staff in there are really helpful and always willing to rush of and find a title for you. I love the coffee shops they often have to recline and submerge yourself in your newly bought fantasy, be it a poetry book or political reading and drinking coffee cannot be compared to anything else. There is something about Books etc which makes it the only book store I will go into to smell the newly bound books awaiting attention on the shelves. There, I've said it upfront, so you should be able to guess that this is a positive opinion. I first enountered the chain in London late last year, and was delighted when I returned home to Manchester to see that we had one here too. Want to know what's so good about this chain?
