Advantages: Helpful staff
Disadvantages: can be a bit pricey on some things
I am writing a review of our local Boots store which is in Gillingham High Street. It is not a very big store as we do not have a big town centre.
The doors to the shop are swing doors but they have made two of them at the right and side ones that open if you push a button so making it easier for people with disabilities or with children etc.
As you go in on the right hand side they have the fridges with drinks and things in it. I dont often buy anything from there as I live quite near the town so would drink when I get home or if I am out for a while then would go to a cafe for a sit down.
There are 4 rows of shelving going down the shop and there is a nice amount of room to get past down the aisles even though it is a small shop.
Along the right hand wall they have the more expensive items like perfumes and electrical goods. There is sometimes someone working there to help you and sometimes a till is open there too.
On the right hand wall past the fridges they have the counter where they have first off the photography bit where you can get photos developed. They have a machine there now where you can pace your sd card and print off the photos yourself. I dont know how much it is to do it as I havent used it but a relative has and said it works out cheaper than buying paper and ink at home.
Further down the counter they have the bit where they sell medicines that are available over the counter. There is always someone here to help and advise you on what to buy and if they dont know them selves they would check with the pharmacist.
The next bit along the counter is the pharmacy itself where you can take your prescriptions and get your medicines etc. They are very helpful there and you can ask about minor ailments and they can give you something that is a prescription drug now without having to see the doctor.
The rest of the shop is divided into lots of different departments. They have one shelf with all hair care things like hair spray, hair dye, shampoos etc. Their own make is usually cheaper than buying the brand names and is just as good a product.
They have a nice make up shelf although I wish they did some of the cheaper brands in our Boots like they do in the big store in Chatham as some of it is really expensive when you are buying for a teenager.
They have a shelf for mens toiletries which sells deodorants etc. they have much more for men these days as more and more men are taking care of their skin so they have more products on show.
The baby section is nearer the back of the shop and they sell nappies, baby food, milk and a few items of clothing and things like cups etc.
There is another shelf with facial care products where you have an assortment of creams cleansers and moisturisers to choose from.
Then there is another department where they have more over the counter things like first aid bits and pieces, eye care, things for the feet and other parts of the body. t is usually easy to find what you are looking for but if you cant you can ask the person at the counter and they will come and help you.
There are always lots of offers going on in Boots usually 3 for 2 offers. As long as its something you want or need then you are getting a bargain. I know a lot of people stock up on these items. They also sometimes have special offers on in the store like with make up where if you spend more than a certain amount you can get a free gift. I have done this before when buying some makeup for my daughter and got a free bag full of more make up bits which were worth quite a bit if they had been bought separately.
You can have a Boots advantage card where you get points every time you shop there although I havent had mine for long so not sure how it works exactly. I know there is a machine where you can put your card in and check the balance.
I would recommend this shop for anyone who wants to buy a chemist product or would like more help with their purchase as the staff are very helpful. I am giving the shop 4 stars though as they are sometimes a lot more expensive than other High Street chains selling the same kind of goods.
Summary: Ok if you want to know something about an illness.
