Advantages: Points mean prizes, good range of services.
Disadvantages: If it's not on offer, it's bound to be cheaper elsewhere.
Eek! Sorry about the pun. I know everyone's heard of Boots, but I'd like to stick my oar in. Boots offer a great range of products, including make-up, electrical beauty products, plenty of smellies and gifts to supply your xmas presents for life and good offers all the time. Alas, unless a product is on special offer, it's likely to be more expensive than rival shops (eg. Superdrug). But then again, I did mention special offers. Buy one get one free, three for the price of two, save a third...and so on. PLUS there's the Advantage Card, which is my biggest temptation for buying from Boots. It's free to get one and when you do, you collect points (4 for every pound spent) and there are constant extra points on specific products, which vary each month. 100 points=£1 and it's easy to rack them up with extra points (eg. 150 extra points when you buy a articular branded shampoo). Not bad eh?, considering you can exchange your points instore on products marked with a * (there are hundreds of them-perfumes, hairdryers, you name it). There are also good offers/points to be had from an Advantage Point (resembling an ATM). Boots also offers a range of services which put it above most health and beauty stores. Their Opticians have a good reputation and picking up your medical prescription from Boots is convenient. A recent service which I'm impressed with, is an opt-in Organ Donor symbol which you can have added to your Advantage Card. You can pick up travel insurance or even dental insurance from most stores. If you get the chance, visit the Kensington or Milton Keynes branches. They have what's called the 'Health and Beauty Experience' which is a whole floor offering beauty and alternative treatments. This is so unique and sounds a great idea to spoil yourself or a friend. Services include manicures, massage, accupuncture, nutritional advise and many more. I suppose I'd better thr
ow in some disadvantages, or you'll think I work for Boots! (I don't...honest). Well, it's a shame they haven't included more stores to have the 'Experience' extras, as I'd love to try what's on offer. Also, as I mentioned earlier, full price products can be more expensive than say Superdrug (who are great for discounts). Well, that's all I can think of for now, I'll add more if I get inspired! I hope I've said something worthwhile, so if you haven't got an Advantage Card.....WHY NOT?

- 26/02/01 Boots may be OK for many things but I do not recommend their Opticians - they are dreadful in my experience. |
