Advantages: Great stock of books, CDs and DVDs of many genres.
Disadvantages: Slightly awkward experience with security at the store I went to one time.
I've always quite liked Borders. I've spent a few afternoons there in the past looking through many books that interest me. A lot of the time I've been surprised at how big the range of books is! Almost every time I go there I find that what I'm looking for or something very near. Even if I go with the intention buying some obscure philosophy book it is quite often the case that I'll find what I'm looking for.
Not only do they stock an enormous amount of books of many genres, they also sell CDs, DVDs and various other products such as calendars. If I remember correctly, the spread of CD genres was good. Everything from classical to hard rock/metal was there.
If you get hungry or thirsty and don't want to walk out the door there's a cafe on site which sells the usual stuff.
Whenever I have been there, the staff have always been pleasant at the tills and I've never really had a major complaint to make. However, there was one time in the cark park when I stepped across some soil with some friends near some flowers/foliage on a border. We then entered the shop and walked around having a look at various things until we were stopped by a security guy who told us we had to leave the store for walking across the car park kerb thingy. Considering that we didn't step on any plants as we walked across bare soil, I thought this was quite unfair.
Despite this slight criticism, which most likely only applies to a) the particular store at which it happened and b) the time when this security guard worked there, I think Borders is a great place to go if you want to find books that usually aren't sold in smaller shops.
Summary: Good books, DVDs and CDs.
