Advantages: Excellent Staff.
Disadvantages: Not the cheapest music.
This book store provides a really wide choice of many books to suit all tastes in a very well laid out shop. I have read a number of opinions on Dooyoo about the Borders shop in Glasgow and I was very pleasantly surprised to come across one of their shops in York. Needless to say we spent a long time in this shop browsing around the books and listening to music CD’s. In the music department are a large number of headphones to listen to a wide range of CD’s and although the prices were not the cheapest around there was a very wide choice of music. In the book sections it was good to see that there was not piles of best sellers trying to tempt a buyer, but a great variety of books that were very well ordered and easy to find your way around. For some months we have been trying to find a particular relaxation cassette tape that we have been told on endless occasions is no longer available, but we were overjoyed to find it in this shop. In fact there was two copies, so we bought both as a friend of ours has also been hunting for this tape. At the Help desks were extremely helpful members of staff. I know that may sound a bit silly, but in many book shops we have visited the staff are too busy reading books to actually help the customers. There was one aspect of the staff at the Help desks that was very good to see and that was when somebody asked where a book or CD was located. Instead of just pointing a finger and sending the customer in the general direction the staff either went with the customer to show them exactly where the book was located, or offered to go and fetch the book for the customer. I don’t know if this is company policy, or just something the staff in York have started themselves, but it was very good to see. Why has this type of customer service disappeared from so many places? Around the shop were many seats to sit and relax and peruse any book and a very pleasant coffee shop fo
r refreshments. I know we shall be regular visitors to this store whenever we are in York.
