As I?m sure you are aware Borders is actually an American company that has infiltrated the UK. If this is the standard of US shops then I for one want more of them over here!

Borders in general always provides a top quality store, I have experience of Leeds, London and the York store. The stores are always well positioned in the city, in spacious, well-decorated buildings. The interior décor is always modern in style but never over the top, giving a feeling of peace and tranquillity, definitely plus points for any book store. Each store is always provided with a vast range of books from bestsellers to very specialised areas of interest. The shelves are always well labelled, tidy and in good alphabetical order. Of course books are not the only things Borders sells. The range of products includes CDs, music and spoken words, audiotapes, videos and DVDs and most stores include a high quality coffee bar to add to the shopping experience. In every store I have been in the staff are always friendly, willing to help and well informed, again the York store is no exception. Another advantage of Borders is that they always have great offers on. New hard backs are usually half price; paperbacks are usually 3 for 2, to name but a few.

If you are in the city of York, either visiting or residing there and you are either after a quiet shop to browse or are after a specific item from the list above, Borders is a must visit. The shop at one end of the main street and can not be missed with its glass front, and if you leave fancying a spot of lunch then the famous Betties tea shop is just around the corner! When you walk through the main doors the feeling of being in a top quality shop sweeps over you. As I state above the Borders shopping experience is second to none and York is no exception. On the ground floor you can browse the vast array of fiction titles before moving through to a rear area dedicated to some of those specialist subject areas, finance, comput
ing etc. When you have finished with those you can take a short walk upstairs to browse the collection of music, DVDs, children?s books and travel. If you need any help with anything this is also where you will find the customer service desk.

After all that browsing I am sure by then you are in need of refreshment, some caffeine and a little sugar hit. If this is the case continue up the back stairs to the very original roof coffee shop for coffee and a cake. Although if you aren?t a caffeine addict like most of the population there is a good selection of soft drinks and if you are watching your waistline you could just go for one of the home make biscuits.

In summary, all Borders stores are of a high quality and well worth a potter around even if you don?t intend to buy anything and York is no exception. A great city to visit with a great bookshop, perfect for that Christmas shopping, whatever the time of year!

I used to live in York. My mum and dad still do so I visit them, and the city centre, quite often. I didn't even know this was there! I'll have to check it out next time I go.
