Advantages: Cheap

Disadvantages: Inefficient

About four years ago (when I was a bit strapped for cash!) I decided to rent a new television from what was then Granada TV Rentals - now Boxclever. All was OK until October last year when I decided that I wanted to buy a new telly and stop renting - prices for wide-screen now being a bit more sensible!

I wrote to my local Boxclever showroom on the 9th of November last year to cancel the contract. I delivered the letter by hand. I also cancelled the direct debit to them.

I heard nothing until the 27th of November, when I recieved a payment reminder which included a thinly veiled threat of court action. I immediately wrote to Boxclever explaining that I no longer required their machine and that I did not intend to give them any more money.

Several days after that I received a phone call from my local branch trying to get me to rent a DVD, during the course of which conversation I informed the young man that I wanted them to come and collect their television.

On all three occasions I had given them my mobile number (and they already had my home number) so there was no excuse for not contacting me.

On the 6th of January I received yet another demand for money. I immediately wrote again - yet again explaining that I no longer required their television. I also sent a copy to the Chief Executive.

On the 15th of January I received a "formal demand for payment" which contained the threat to terminate the agreement and recover the equipment. Some threat!!

Finally I got a letter dated 22nd of January (nearly three months after I first asked) which apologised for the inconvenience and said they would be round on the 3rd of March to collect the television.

Unfortunately, the story doesn't end there!

I made arrangements for my partner to stay home that day so that they could call and collect. As we both work on contract, it costs us money to have time off!

I was somewhat dis-c
huffed when my partner phoned me at about ten o'clock and told me that Boxclever had rung to say that they wouldn't be collecting till the following day! What arrogance! As if I'm supposed to run my life to their timetable!

Straight away I was on the phone to their Head Office in Bedford (01234 355233) to complain to their Chief Executive's office. It took about an hour of argument on the phone (much to the amusement of my work colleagues) before they agreed to honour their commitment!

I have since discovered through some web searching that this is far from being an isolated incident. They seem happy to accept you money, but VERY slow to act when you want out!

I will never use them again!

Hmmm...they delivered a 'new' TV to me on Saturday with a broken button, broken front, covered in food and the speakers don't work. Now they're coming to 'fix' it on Saturday......although I'm not sure how! :o) Terrible company, they were OK before Boxfresh took over though.

I did read the small print and I did follow the rules! BoxClever didn't.

Sounds liek this is one to avoid then, how do they get away with it? glad you gave them a hard time!
