Advantages: Great fun for the kids to choose their own bear and see it made in front of them

Disadvantages: Can be expensive!

I visited Build a bear just before Christmas with my God daughter, Daisy who is 2 and a half years old, as we had decided to let her choose her own bear for a Christmas present.

The first thing you must decide on when choosing a bear is which bear you would like! There were roughly 30 different bears to choose from varying in price from £10 upto £25 ish. They weren't all bears either!! You could choose from many different animals, including bears!!

Daisy chose a pink bear with love hearts on it that cost £15; there are stuffed bears on display to show you what they look like, so you just choose one of the empty bears that matches your choice!

You can then choose whether or not you want you bear to have a voice, you can choose from some pre recorded sounds or you can choose to record your own noise. We didn't choose to have this option.

The next port of call was getting the bear stuffed! There was a big machine that you could see into with all the fluff being turned inside. The lady asked Daisy to choose a little love heart from the machine, she asked her to kiss it and make a wish and this heart was then placed inside the bear before it was stuffed, I though this was a lovely little touch! They then asked Daisy to stand on a pump that made the fluff come out of the machine. They then inserted a metal tube into the bear which filled it up with fluff; it really was quite interesting to watch!! When the bear was full they asked me if it was full enough, it was so they then stitched the bear up.

You can finish there if you like and it will only cost you the price of the bear itself, but there were just too many fabulous outfits to choose from so we couldn't resist buying the bear an outfit too!!! Daisy opted for a bright pink mini skirt with a little white t-shirt and of course the bear had to have pink shoes to match!! (She is mad about pink in case you havent guessed!!) The skirt cost £5, the top was £5 and the shoes were also £5.

You also get the option of naming your bear, to do this you can log into the computer they have in store, input your details and they will print you a certificate to take home with you! Daisy had not decided on a name so we didn't do that.

In total the bear cost £30, but it is a quite a large bear and also has clothes to wear!! Daisy absolutely loves her and has named her Holly Bear!! I think build a bear is a lovely place to take a child to treat for a special occasion. I also enjoyed having a look at all the different things you can choose from!!

Summary: My god daughter had a great time!

Sounds great fun my daughter has a build a bear that she was given by her Godparents for her dedication and she still loves it years later, they recorded a little message for her as well which was really lovely. :)

I love the fact they add the heart aswell, makes the bears a little more special.
