Many years ago I remember finding a tiny green two bar toastrack with a tomato on the top in a second hand shop. It was so cute and I bought it for 10p. Underneath it was stamped Carltonware and so began a bit of collecting mania that is still with me. Oddly I don't own much Carltonware now, just an apple blossom pattern preserve but I can pretty much date my interest in ceramics to that find.

The history of the factory is available for anyone to read at various sites, I love the beautiful floral ceramics Carltoware made in the 1930s. The most sought after pieces are the lustreware pieces from the same date (Check out the Carltonware section on Ebay pulse) some of which are quite valuable. However it is the cheerful embossed floral patterns that to me are a treat. Some of the 70's patterns are very funky and the moneyboxes from then are beginning to go up in price.

Needless to say Ebay is awash with Carltonware and you can pick up pieces for just a few pounds, avoid damaged pieces and look out for original boxes as they can be as pretty as the items they contain.
