Beware the ripoff extras (Carpet Right)

Disadvantages: Shoddy practice of adding dubious extra charges

Carpetright seem to make most of their money from the rip-off extras. A £25 delivery charge was added to my order, with the claim that the fitter would make contact after Carpetright had delivered. The invoice makes it very clear that you have a separate contract with a self-employed fitter, who you will pay in cash. When not delivered on time, I had to chase them. Eventually, the fitter delivered when fitting. He made it clear that he didn't get any delivery charge, and they don't get the "extra work" surcharge that Carpetright also add if you buy carpet for stairs/landing. Two messages via their website were completely ignored by Customer Services. Only got any response after a recorded delivery to HQ. They refuse to refund a charge for a service they did not provide.

Summary: Charges for extra work go in the till - not to the fitters
