Advantages: good carpets

Disadvantages: ripped of if its an insurance claim

Last year we had a little accident and the kitchen ending being flooded out. We rang the insurance company and all we needed to do was to send in a quote and they would send us the cheque.

The nearest carpet store to us is Carpet Right and we found a carpet that we liked. We sat down with the sales rep and he worked out how much the carpet was going to cost. When we asked for a written quote so that we could send it to the insurance company the reps face dropped and said that if this was an insurance claim then the prices were wrong.

Anyone that has been in a Carpet Right shop will know that a vast majority of their carpets are always in a sale! We was told that as this was an insurance payout then the sale prices are invalid and its the full price that counts. The fitting fee was doubled and a very large administration charge was added. The original price of the carpet was just under £200 but once all these extras were added in, that rose to £350!

I know that alot of people wont care as the insurance is paying for it so what the heck but I hate being ripped off and I certainly count this as doing so.

You're the victim of some cowboy salespeople. I'm not 100% certain, but I think this is illegal too.

That's disgraceful, although not in the least surprising.

I can't believe that they get away with this, it's a complete scam. Can you report them to somthing like the Trading Standards dept.? It amounts to fraud & our insurance premimums will all be going up, thanks to little rip-off like this! I don't blame you being angry!
