Advantages: None *- appalling

Disadvantages: too many to mention read the rant!!

I was extremely disappointed and unhappy with the service I have received from carpetright. I needed a carpet rather quickly for a rental property. I visited Workington store on Wednesday 13th June and picked my carpet.

I gave my own measurements, paid and arranged delivery and fitting for Friday morning (15th), I was told this would be £35 to be paid on delivery to the fitter. Unfortunately when the fitter arrived with the carpet on Friday it was the wrong size. I phoned the store and queried this Peter the Store Manager, he was extremely unhelpful and almost plain rude insisting that my measurements must have been wrong as opposed to the sales consultants, I was at work at the time and my friend was at my house with the fitter, I had the piece of paper with my measurements in front of me at work, the man still insisted that if I didn't want that piece of carpet the fitter had with him I would have to pay a charge for them to take it back!. I needed this carpet ASAP so I asked if it was possible to get the difference made up in carpet although there would be a join as I mentioned previously it is to be a rental property so would have to do. I also did not want to pay a charge and leave myself out of pocket. I was told this was fine and I could pay for the additional carpet over the phone, Peter also insisted that I go back to my property and check my measurements.

I did this on Saturday and they were correct, rather than argue (as I have stated Peter I spoke to was extremely unhelpful and rude, I might also add that I wasn't!) I called back again and confirmed my measurements. The difference between the measurements was roughly 2-3 metres, not exactly a huge amount. I spoke to the salesperson who actually did my quote and he was much more pleasant and helpful than Peter and I paid the difference over the phone (roughly thirty pounds). I was then passed back to Peter and was told that it would now be delivered Monday morning and that it would be £65 to deliver and fit the new carpet!!! This seems to me to be a huge amount to charge for 2/3 metres of carpet?? Apparently this extra charge is due to the fitter having to fit more carpet?? I hardly think that an extra £30 is justified for this otherwise I seem to be in the wrong job. Peter's was again offhand and plain appalling as I queried this charge he was most impatient with me and was 'take it or leave it' basically.

I have now arranged for someone else to fit my carpet for the seemingly bargain price of £30, although I am now told that I have to pay a delivery charge of £25!!! I think this is outrageous not to mention absurd as at the beginning of this whole escapade the carpet was going to be delivered and fitted for £35!! Again a waste of more of my time.

Needless to say I am extremely busy and haven't the time to argue/dispute this with the completely unhelpful Store Manager. My whole objective was to get a carpet and get it fitted quickly into my property. None of this has happened and it has cost me more than I anticipated not to mention consuming a great deal more of my time.

It was delivered this morning with a charge of £25!!! it was dumped in the living room (again friend was in) and not even laid flat on the florr, no receipt was given for the delivery either (could of gone in the delivery mans back pocket for all I know) even though my friend challenged him on this, she got a very unhelpful ask the store!! Seems that once youve paid thats it with Carpet Right, all interest is totally lost

Needless to say I will not be using Carpetright again (I have 5 more rental properties to carpet I might add) and would not recommend them to anyone, in fact I think it will be the opposite!! Absolutely a complete shambles. Carpetright? Carpetwrong more like.

Summary: never ever again, will go elsewhere

I had a similar problem , in that i bought a carpet and collected it myself, when returning home the carpet was cut to small, this was not because of my measurments they were correct on order reciept but cut wrong!! I took the carpet back and a male staff member helped me by carrying it from the boot of my car back to the store to replace only when getting the carpet out of he boot he scratched my car with the backing of the carpet.. this i never noticed untill home and couldnt prove!!!!! So thanks carpet right next time you can stick your carpet!!!!

At what point did the fact that you cannot use a measuring tape to measure a room become the problem of the retailor? Its not their fault is it?

at a guess you found him rude because he told you it would cost extra and you didnt want to put your hand in your pocket.

the perception of the customer always being right (in my personal opinion and not as a retail manager) is complete non sense and im sure that the store manager did as much as his company policy would allow him to do.

i do however believe that the customer is the main part of the success of any company and that customer service is paramount to the survival of any retailor.

you lot make me laugh, mate if you hadnt given the wrong size there wouldnt have been a problem. you probably found him rude because you were hearing what you didnt want to hear. fitting is based on the square metre, so if you need more carpet you pay more!! a receipt for the delivery is given if you actually ask the fitter who delivered it
