2 weeks ago my brother treated my mother to new carpets for her new flat, he took her to Carpet right in New Malden,, picked 2 carpets for lounge and bedroom, paid and left. Last Friday i phoned my mother in Surrey, (my brother is in East Sussex and i am in Yorkshire), to ask her if she had got her new carpets, the horror story she told me next shocked me and i was wondering if anybody else has been stung the same way. Thursday 8th November, 4 fitters turn up, start laying the underlay in lounge, then 1 turns to my mother, who is an old age pensioner, living in sheltered accomodation, and says, thats an extra £40 pounds on top of the £112 she had to pay for fitting, because in his words "we aint furniture movers". My mother has got her wrist in plaster, which when purchasing the carpets she explained to the assistant that she had a broken wrist from falling over 4 weeks ago, and would have a problem moving the bed and wardrobes, to which he said it would not be a problem, as the fitter got more aggressive she phoned my brother in East Sussex, and the fitter swore at him down the phone, my mother ended leaving 4 fitters in her flat while she walked down the high street to withdraw an extra £40, which she was given no recipt for, the brand new wardrobe was dragged along the bedroom floor and broken, the cream carpet in the bedroom turned out to be green when laid, my mother is so easy going she will not complain. Also while the fitter was outside my mothers flat talking to the store in New Malden, my mother and the other neighbours could hear all the swearing and bad language he was using. I have e-mailed carpet rights head office, but as yet my mother has not had any reply let alone an apology. Is this the norm for such a big company

Summary: Never again

i would have made sure there was someone there do sort out these problems rather than an old age pensioner (no disrepect at all meant).

not that this is an excuse for abismal service from a recommended fitter. i would have complained to the store as soon as i had a problem.

again make sure there is someone there to deal with problems. problems can happen to the best of us.

as a freelance fitter for carpetright i can only say that the fitter your mother got should not be in the job. carpet right have would never let a man of that creed do the job for them and i can only say how sorry i am that this happend for all the hard working fitters out there. it dose not take 4 fitters to do what your mother got done. management for that carpetright is totaly wrong to send out an ass hole like that. there is a charge for clearing out rooms but there iscompromise. like 4 fitters for your job. if i am by myself there would be a charge of£20.00 per room but you clear that with the customer first. it only takes one fitter to scrub the rest of us. if you need enything fitted call me on 07753764470 or i willpass you on to a good guy.
