I worked as a carpet estimator for the Carpetright Group . their prices for underlay and accesories are ridiculess (get them far cheaper on the net ) they do charge a delivery charge when the carpet is being fitted of which the salesman gets part of say del charge £30 £3 to salesman rest to shop not to fitter .If a hall stairs and landing is to be fitted you will be charged say £30 del plus surcharge of say £35 of which a part of each say £3 and £5 goes to the salesman the rest to the store none to the fitter.In my experience you can easily haggle with the salesman to get these charges droped the salesman will not want to loose the sale.If you get your own underlay and accessories they will try to charge you for the fitting of it again if they do tell them to fit it free of charge or you wont give them the order this normally works.Dont forget they want your order.Dont be misslead by their underlay prices you might think you are getting a good underlay for say £7.99 ish per sq mt but you arnt .they sell rubber underlay if i were putting an underlay under say a lounge,dinningroom or a hall stairs and landing a middle of the road underlay weight would be 100lb weight see what price you pay at carpetright for this weight compared to the internet. A good quality underlay would be 130lb weight.or try the PU underlays such as the cloud 9 cumulus or the tredair dreamwalk.Dont forget you will need different underlays if you have underfloor heating i hope this is of help to you all lets stop Carpetright ripping people off
