Advantages: none, unless you like salesman with comb overs

Disadvantages: overpriced/late/DID NOT COMPLETE/unhelpful/pushy

When arriving in the store, on the Botley road, Oxford, we were initially met by a very friendly junior staff member, however, we were passed over to a more senior member very quickly, who subjected us to horrific so called 'hard selling' techniques, and despite measuring accurately, insisted we buy another foot of lino just to make sure.
I was shocked by the company policy of carpet right, to charge you £35 for the delivery of the product, "Because we have to send the fitters out to deliver it", when the FITTERS have to come out to FIT the carpet anyway, which also cost an additional £71. You also need to pay for your own personal pot of glue, at £12 (I wouldn't mention it, but it's relevant later).
We were unable to move the large utilities out of the kitchen ourselves, having specifically tried this before hand. We were reassured by the in store salesman that the fitters would be able to do that for us, and not to worry. We made arrangements as to when it would be fitted and paid. It was the first job of the day, on the 1st of July 2008, which meant they "should arrive about 9am".
By 12pm they still hadn't arrived, so we called to ask when they would be coming. They passed on our phone number to the fitters, and an hour later we received a call from them saying "yeah, we're running late, we'll be round between one and two" (they actually arrived at 2:30). After providing them with light refreshments, they looked around the kitchen and said "well, we're not paid to do lifting, so we're not going to do it". They also didn't have any equipment to help them move objects, unlike all other delivery/removal men. We reminded them of what we'd been promised by the salesman, however, this just prompted them to make a phone call to the office, and then come back with the same conclusion.
They were more than happy to try and leave without offloading the lino etc which we'd paid for as well as the delivery, so it was necessary to remind them to do this. However, they still left without leaving us the glue so our alternative fitter would be able to use it. This took another phone call to carpet right to clear up, and it was dropped back two hours later by the fitters. It was instantly clear why they hadn't left it originally, since we hadn't actually paid for our own glue, instead, we received a half empty, glue encrusted can, which had clearly been used before.
Thus ends the day's saga. I urge you NOT to use carpet right, the salesmen will lie, the service is unreliable and the fitters are not equipped with the tools they need.

Summary: A rediculous farse: lying, cheating, still not done, going to alternative company.

I don't doubt that :-) I would expect it to vary very widely from store to store. Especially since the fitters are (I believe) contracted out, in which case, you could could get pretty much anyone coming into your home.

I'm sure Carpet Right go to some effort in checking these things, but it didn't pan out for us.

(Could someone tell me if I'm supposed to be commenting my own post, please? I think I'll leave it be now...)

We have had a lot of carpets from our local store and have been very happy! Susan

Thanks for your comment, it's nice to know that other people have had similar experiences (despite the fact they obviously will have!) Yes, it really did make me angry.... it was just that they would say they're going to do something, and then don't keep the promise... I just wish we could live in a society when you didnt have every little detail in writing, to stop people screwing you over...

When did the value of the verbal agreement plummet?

James x
