Advantages: Wide range of carpets and cheapish prices.

Disadvantages: Staff a bit forceful and fitting charges expensive

Carpets are potentially one of the most boring products to grace our good Earth. However, after a recent incident at my house where a radiator sprung a leak and decided to ruin the whole lower floor of our house we had only had for 2 months, new carpets soon became an issue at the forefront of my mind. Now ill be honest, I am not a leading expert in the world of carpets, my knowledge is very limited. Therefore I am going to describe my experience with Carpet Right (CR) and not go too in depth into the products they supply.

CR is one of the largest carpet stores in the UK and have around 450 stores nationwide. The CR logo has become widely known and consists of red writing with the words 'Carpet Right' over the top of a green tick, which I guess is quite convenient because when you think of right you think of a tick which will obviously help it stick in peoples minds.

CR offer a wide variety of flooring and not just carpets like the name suggest. The following types of flooring are available from the majority of their stores.

Carpet -

Obviously their largest collection of flooring is the carpets range. When you walk in the store there are hundreds of carpets to choose from, Berbers, twists, wool and woven types are all available. The carpets are displayed in different ways; the more expensive carpets are usually just as you walk in the store, obviously to capture your attention. Some of these can reach costs of up to £75 SQ.M, but most lie around the £16 mark. These are mainly displayed in 1SQ.M example pieces to give you an idea of the feel and colour.

At the back of the store is usually the cheaper carpets, which they hope you will never make it to, these are the budget carpets that range from around £5 - £8 a SQ.M. I actually chose one of these and I have to say it was a very good carpet, it was the end of a reel and would have cost around £125 for the amount I wanted, the salesman however said he would only charge me £80, a good deal for a respectable piece of carpet. They are displayed on big rollers and are simply unrolled and cut off at the length you want.

Vinyl -

The vinyl collection is as you would expect not as large as the carpet collection, but there is still a good range available. Vinyl is more durable, stain resistant and hard wearing, a good choice if you have kids or pets, and especially for the kitchen. It tends to be far cheaper than carpet, around £5 - £6 a SQ.M and is available in a variety of colours; there are even wood effect vinyl's available that do look quite realistic.

Laminate -

The Laminate range is the smallest range but they still provide many different colours and style of wood to accommodate your every need. Wood is similar to Vinyl in the respect that it is hard and durable, however if you have a large spillage of water it may well seep through the gaps and settle underneath, which if left may start to smell. The Laminate is displayed in strips of around 2 metres by 25cm and gives you a good idea of what it may look like. The prices are similar to the carpets and can range from £16 to £75 a SQ.M and in some cases exceed this.

Rugs and Doormats -

CR have an extensive range of rugs in a variety of colours and sizes to match any home, they also have a selection of doormats in stain and wear resistant polypropylene. These are usually displayed as they

CR offer a free quote service meaning you can get an idea of the kind of price range you can afford depending on the size of your room. This is very handy if you are replacing a large area of carpet, for me it wasn't too substantial and I knew the size I needed so I didn't actually experience this service. It was however offered and they could do it within 3 days so fairly quick.

CR like many other carpet stores often have sales on which say 40%, what they really mean is 5% off, they only have to have the items in one store in the UK for one week at the higher price to be able to say everywhere else it is 40% off, and that store is probably in the Outer Hebrides. I did however find the staff in store a bit pushy, taking me around the store showing me every carpet they do when all i wanted to do was look around, reminded me of Thailand.

There is often ample parking around the stores because they are usually large buildings in out of town retail parks, and in the store I went to there was disabled access. They do offer a delivery and fitting service, although when I asked it was £30 delivery and if I remember rightly £3 metre to fit it. If you have laminate they also catch you out, the minimum charge was £100 installation, so no matter how much you want fitted that is the lowest you will pay.

Overall Carpet Right is like most other carpet stores; they offer a wide range of flooring at similar costs and offer similar services. I would advise using them because I had no problems, I did not however get anything delivered or fitted so I don't know how good the service is on that side.

Shop Staff - 7/10
Product Range - 8/10
Prices - 7/10

Summary: Like most other carpet shops..

I bought all my carpets from carpet right with 10 years guarantee but after 2 years the carpets worn out and the colour were slightly changed, I asked them to change it and they did, all of it!
