Advantages: Had the floor covering that I required at the right price!

Disadvantages: Not many staff.

I needed some floor covering and quick, as I want to put my house on the market and I never got round to doing the floor tiling!

Saturday saw me visiting CarpetRight, Bedford. This is one of Britain's largest carpet retailer chains, with over three hundred stores in Britain and Ireland. They offer excellent value for money, with their extensive range of vinyl and carpets (Axminsters and Berbers to pure wool and Wiltons, to name but a few). CarpetRight also offers a large and varied range of rugs Prices start from as little as £16.99, as well as wood look laminate flooring.

As the customer, there are two options available when purchasing from CarpetRight. Firstly there is the take away rollstock carpet from a comprehensive selection of carpet collections. Secondly there is an ordering system so CarpetRight allows there to be a carpet to fit every taste and budget. So from remnants (Remnants are room size pieces of carpet and vinyl in perfect condition but come from the end of the rollstock, sold at excellent prices) to rollstock, CarpetRight has an unprecedented range of international brands plus styles and in a multitude of colours. Rollstock is very popular because it can be used for any room. Once cut from the roll, it can be folded up and loaded into the back of a car, a task with which the sales staff will gladly assist. Shane and I witnessed this during our visit.

CarpetRight guarantees a superb choice of floor coverings. I wanted value for money, needing coverings for my en-suite and kitchen/dinner. Shane and I settled on vinyl, as it is easy to lay, keep clean plus hard wearing, particularly with two dogs and a cat! CarpetRight has a price pledge policy ?our price promise means that if within 28 days of purchasing your carpet or vinyl from us you find the same perfect carpet or vinyl on sale at another competitive carpet retailer at a lower price, we will refund the difference.? They're floor coverings are available also
for delivery within days of the order being placed That suited me fine, as I want value for money and did not really want to visit loads of shops just to get a bargain. The only problem is that the wait for the fitters is ten days! (Oh well you cannot win them all!)

Currently CarpetRight and its sister company CarpetWise are having an amazing £5 Million stock clearance sale, which includes savings of up to 50% off over 2000 carpet, vinyl and wood laminate flooring prices. Shane and I managed to get the vinyl floor coverings that we liked at 50% off the recommended retail price.

I always worry that I have made a mistake when measuring up for a floor covering. It takes a lot of practice and experience to fit carpets quickly and professionally, with the minimum of wastage. CarpetRight can arrange a fully professional service that takes all the worry out of fitting a carpet. CarpetRight provide FREE quotes for fitting by experienced and professional carpet fitters. In the case of larger purchases, CarpetRight can offer instant credit of up to £2000. At CarpetRight there is also offer a professional and completely FREE estimating service. This ensures that when it comes to choosing carpet there is maximum cost efficiency and minimum wastage.

The total cost of the vinyl for the two rooms is £120.98 but this does not include the fitting cost. This is an extra £80.00, which I pay on the day of fitting. I feel, personally that this is a little expensive, but I really do not want the hassle at present.

You are generally better off finding a store that offers free fitting (usually on a carpet costing more than, say £8.99 a square yard) and buying a crapet only just above their lower limit.

In 1974, I bought a carpet from a very nice man called Philip Harris who ran a family carpet shop on the Walworth Road in London. He was very active in a local childrens charity and was very good when it came to replacing the carpet that had been badly fitted by his fitter (who he had then sacked).

That man went on to become Lord Harris... the CEO of Carpetwise (having made a fortune selling out Harris Queensway). Got his 'gong' for charity work (in this case WELL-DESERVED).

I always smile when I pass his shops.
