Advantages: Good Head Office, Will try to solve a problem if it occurs
Disadvantages: Rude, Uncaring, Unhelpful
Go to your nearest independent retailer thats my advice. They should make a program entitled "Carpet shops from hell" and devote the whole hour just to Carpet Right. I had mesaurements taken in October 2002, all is well with that part. Ordered and paid for carpet and arranged fitting date giving plenty of notice of 16/12/02. Finsihed decorating the morning of the 16/12/02 moved furniture out of the way and completely exhausted myself only to get a phone call at 10.15 that morning saying no fitter available. The store was rude unhelpful and suggested alternative dates of January. As you can imagine choice words were relayed to the rude Assistant Manager and then later on the same words were imparted to the Store Manager who didnt get in till 11am and was gone by 4pm. Part timer? I was told that the store only has one fitter and he had gone sick. In fairness they are going to refund the fitting charge and provide free gripper bars for the job. Head office of Carpet right were great and put lot of pressure on the store. However 17/12/02 still havent got any guaranteed fitting date, they are still pursuing an alternative fitter?? Not a relaxing shopping experience, the staff at store level are rude, unhelpful and uncaring in general. There is a definite need for more staff training and more fitters. Even when I tried to fax the store manager, it took me three telephone calls to convince the lady that answered the phone that their fax machine is not working!!! She finally sorted it out but was told can I send the fax later as the manager wants to use the fax machine. An absolut joke and my advice to anyone is not to be sucked in by the massive discounts (which are fake anyway) and the promises by Carpet Right as they are wholly unreliable. Rob

- 18/12/02 I'm sorry about your bad experience, I used them earlier this year and everything was fine. |

- 18/12/02 I once bought a carpet from a guy witha shop in the Walworth Road in London. The owner even came and helped the fitter (since his assistant has been injured).
The name of the guy was Phil Harris. He is now the Lord Harris who, having sold Harris-Queensway for mega-quids, then formed Carpetright. He was a great guy then (got his title by charity support - even when he was a small-business man). I am pleased to learn that Head Office are being 'decent'. That is what I would have expected from that company. |

- 17/12/02 I'm sorry you've had a bad experience! I recently (in the last 6 months) have recarpeted my entire house apart from one room with Carpet Right carpets! They're cheap and cheerful. I've always been able to have a carpet fitted within a week of ordering, and fitting is very cheap. For tricky rooms (like attic rooms wtih stairs in that need carpetting) they'll come out to double check your measurements too. Sounds to me like they've been Carpet Wrong for you. Hope you get it resolved soon. |
