Advantages: Good range of carpets, carpets relatively cheap, store empty - no queues
Disadvantages: No after sales service, foam back carpets rubbish, No queues speaks volumes
My daughter and son in law have lived without carpet for months. With a new baby due soon, they used a huge chunk of the maternitiy grant to buy much needed carpet. It was one of the cheapest range (just under £6 p sq m) but so much of their tiny budget that they could not afford the fitting costs. When the carpet arrived, and they began to fit it, they discovered it was two and a half feet short. The size of the actual carpet did not match the invoice. Too late for a return, of course, since this inexperienced and vulnerable young couple had cut out for the chimney breast. Not to worry, says granny-to-be (me), sure there is some sort of solution. I went to the store and asked simply for the missing carpet THAT HAD BEEN PAID FOR and the means to stick it to the rest of the carpet. I did not ask for another carpet or anything other than the basic to which my daughter and hubby were entitled. I had left them rowing and her in tears to try to sort it out. The store staff said it was my word against theirs that it was short and refused to come and see for themselves that the actual carpet dimensions had not been touched. Anyone could tell where the store had cut short, but without them willing to come and see it was useless. Not only did they refuse to supply the missing bit (having more or less called me a liar), I was told I would have to pay for carpet I needed, though they condescended to offer it at half price. The means to attach it was a spray costing me a fiver. My daughter has a carpet propped up in her living room now which is meant for the stairs, but is too terrified to start fitting it in case that also is short. My hubby will have to do the deed and hope for the best, cos carpetright won't help. BE WARNED - 'AFTER SALES' translates into 'GET LOST' at Carpetright, at least at their Robin Park, Wigan store. I was not even told how I could make a complaint and where to make it t
o. I have emailed the Head Office, but judging from other opinions read so far, I wont be holding my breath! I should also add that the cost of fitting is extremely expensive. For a carpet costing £103, the fitting fee was almost £60! Delivery was also extra at £15, even though my daughter lives only a few streets away from the store.

- 28/05/03 Nasty experience. I'd recommend measuring the next part before attempting to fit and taking the lot back if its no good.
