Advantages: None that I can think of

Disadvantages: Overpriced fitting, Shoddy Workmanship, Customer service non-existant

05.07.03 Walked in to Carpetright, one of the worst mistakes of our lives. Ordered lino and carpet. Was told the carpet would be delivered within two weeks.

05.08.03 Over 4 weeks later, the carpet was delivered and had been cut too short. Spoke to Lee at the store and he said the refund of £381.96 would be paid by cheque within two weeks. The lino was fitted, the fitter managed to cut off a corner of the lino and tried to mend it as best he could. He agreed that because of his mistake he would seal the edge of the lino, this isn't something that Carpetright usually offers. It looked so shabby without being sealed, I couldn't believe that you could pay a fitter hundreds of pounds and they could leave it in that state!

Between August and October, my other half and I wrote numerous letters and emails, trying to get back the money we had paid for a carpet that we didn't have because of carpetrights incompetence. We always got an automated response with no follow-up. On phoning repeatedly, we were told that the manager of the store had been sacked. I spoke to various customer service representatives who were all as unhelpful as the next and the manager at the Wellingborough store. We even visited the store on a number of occasions and waited for ages, but noone in authority was ever available to see us.

13.10.03 1.58pm, called Customer Service Department as still have not heard anything and was told that matter was now with Regional Manager, Eddy Mangham. They wouldn't give out his phone number, but I was told by Jean that she would get him to call me. Never heard anything more.

14.10.03 4.06pm, after having a message from the store manager on our answer machine yesterday, I called back, asked for the Manager, after being put on hold, I got told that he was busy, I left my name.

21.10.03 8.28am, wrote to the county court customer services department copying in Sharon Moore from Carpetright.

24.10.03 C
all from Manager at Riverside, he advised after discussion that they would be willing to agree to £50 compensation, I said I would call back.

Called manager several times, always told he is with a customer, left name.

03.11.03 Got a call back from the manager eventually and he said that the offer of compensation has now been pulled as we took too long to get back to him!!! Oh my god!

04.11.03 10.01 Spoke to Christine in "Customer Services", advised her of below. She told me I would have to follow the advice of the citizens advice bureau. I asked to speak to someone in authority. She said there was noone other than her with whom I could speak. I asked who her manager was, she advised me Howard James. I asked to speak to him, she refused, she then told me he was unavailable, I asked to hold for him, she put me on hold and there I stayed, noone ever got back to me until I eventually hung up.

I am so stressed out with it all I could cry. I even had a nightmare about it all last night. If anyone knows of anyway I could sort this out fairly I would appreciate your information.

Hi and welcome to Dooyoo! I should definitely see what the CAB have to say as well! Maybe you can get your money through the small claims court or something! What an appalling way to treat someone! Have a look round Dooyoo and do a bit of reading and rating yourself! As gillyman says, it's the best way! Good luck and I hope you enjoy your time here! :o)

Welcome to dooyoo with a sorry tale. I have always found that smaller local stores are often just as inexpensive but care about their reputations. I had a problem some years ago with another company which lasted for 8 months. I wrote to Watchdog and sent a copy of this letter to the company. It was sorted within 2 days. Try it.

Sorry to hear about your experience. By writing hopefully you will help someone else to avoid them.

As the Welcome Guide I just wanted to say welcome aboard and hope you enjoy Dooyoo. Its worth while popping into other people's reviews to see what they have to recommend and condemn. Try to leave a rate and a note so that they know you've been there and reciprocate. That's the way to make friends and cash!

Please feel free to drop me a note if you have any questions - easiest way is to leave a note on my newest op or via my Tooyoo guest book (link is on my home page). Likewise, if you'd like me to read my op - I always reciprocate reads!
