Advantages: Lots of choice, loads of stores everywhere

Disadvantages: Pushy sales, more contract choice than pay as you go

Carphone Warehouse is one of those stores that you will find in most high streets and town centres.

There main seller is mobile phones on all UK networks but also sell laptops, mobile internet and iPod's.

I started using Carphone Warehouse quite a few years back after I needed to upgraded my phone, and like most people, thought buying from a big chain and name such as this company thought I'd get a good all round package.

Upon going to there store I found that there staff were really pushy trying to sell me mobile phones on contracts and were not really that interested in selling phones on Pay as you go.

There staff always try selling you the most latest phone even if this isn't for you I have found, even after I explained I only wanted a simple talk and text phone I was given loads of sales talk on a camera and internet phone I didn't want!

Looking at there prices now from when I went in years ago they have really gone up; I was looking for a new phone a few months back and thought I'd give this place another shot after there was two new stores that were opened near me with loads of offers in the window.
Looking around them seem to have gone even further into selling contract phones and laptops now, with the cheapest Pay as you go phone being £15 but you have you top up by £10 by credit or debit card or £20 cash.

This means the best and cheapest deal you can get here is £25 cheapest.

I was again given loads of sales talk on signing up to a contract and I'd get a free laptop and other goodies, not that I wanted any of them, there staff seem quite helpful from the times I have been in but can be pushy at times.

I ended up going to my local supermarkets to buy a phone, who would have thought that only a few years back that you could buy a phone while doing your weekly shop!


I do recall one time I bought the LG Cookie from Carphone Warehouse and had endless problems, this may not have been there fault but I couldn't get a refund, only was told I had to make arrangements with LG under warranty as it was only 28 days from the day I brought it.

I wouldn't recommend using Carphone Warehouse if your looking for a no frills cheap pay as you go mobile as there are so many other places selling cheaper, even better ones; But if you are looking at going on contract then this place maybe for you with the added extra of getting a free gift with it (However this usually isn't free as your going more line rental)

One last thing to report is that there laptops to buy are no where as cheap as many other places, so I'd stay clear of these in here!!
