Advantages: Bah Humbug!!
Disadvantages: Bah Humbug!!!!!
I recently went to a Carphone Outhouse too! There, I wanted information on buying a Pay as you Go mobile and what was the best one.
Surely, an easy question, not too fraught with aggravation, I thought!
Well, not for the female assistant! She sat at her desk the whole time and scribbled all over the latest catalogue prices and sketches that made no sense to me as I was looking at them upside down.
As I tried to make sense of what she was telling me, I noticed her growing annoyance that I questioned her at all. I seemed to be disturbing her chat with her colleague.
I was not going to be put off. I wanted service! And I was going to get it. I'll make her work, I thought!
She was recommending Orange mobiles, but I had heard that they were more expensive than One2One. And I told her so. WHHAAAATTT?! I felt like Oliver asking for more and being confronted by Mr Bumble and his outrage at such a question!
Now, the assistant went into super-rude mode. 'Well', she said, 'if you want to go and buy a mobile that is not as good as the Orange, go on.' She sneered at me and looked away as if I had dared to disagree with her. As I pondered her attitude, she looked at her fellow colleague with a raised eyebrow and smirk, and I was watching! That did it!
There was no way I was having that! Little did she know I was doing a mystery shop at the time! I took her name, left the store, and went home. I carefully filled out a report of my visit and included all the details of my unpleasant visit and the unpleasant assistant that served, or rather, didn't serve me.
And off the report went. Maybe it sorted her out, when the manager got wind of it. Maybe not. One thing for sure, I cannot stand rudeness from anyone, especially from store assistants who for no apparent reason, believe that they have the right to abuse good customers. OUTRAGEOUS!!!!!

- 07/01/02 You're right, I have recently read an op on Carphone Outhouse. I thought as it provoked some recent memories of mine, I'd put them down as an op. I can't give any other background information on the shop, that wasn't my experience. My experience was asking an assistant for help on a pay as you go mobile. As far as the shop was concerned, it looks great. The staff are what concern me. And other dooyooers as far as I can tell. |
