Advantages: Lots of variety of stock
Disadvantages: Poor prices paid for your items
Cash Convertors is a second hand store that buys and sells from normal people like you and me.
As a buyer, you can find some real bargains here, and it's a good bit of fun hunting through the items available. Our store seems to specialize in DVDs, TVs and computer games, with a few instruments scattered about for good measure. Prices are similar to what you pay in the local paper, and stock is continually changing from week to week, so it's important to visit regularly if you're looking for something in particular.
As a seller, I was insulted to be offered just £40 for a £500 item, so I wouldn't recommend taking your stuff here to sell it (later sold for £100 very easily). It's a buyer's market, and I get the impression that people who sell their stuff here must be at rock bottom - Ebay would be a better idea for sales.
Without wanting to get sued, I can't help thinking that a lot of the stuff for sale here is stolen goods, as it's mostly small household items, rarely boxed. From my own experience I know they don't care about receipts or other proof of purchase. The clientele frequenting these shops are almost always groups of youngsters (dare I say gangs) who have a few games to sell or something. Because of this, the atmosphere in the store is quiteunfriendly and confrontational. Customer service certainly isn't high on the agenda, and that's a real shame as it probably pushes away the more discerning customers who would otherwise be interested in using the store.
Summary: Buy here, sell somewhere else

- 09/04/09 I agree that there is a dodgy element which visits Cash Converters both to buy and sell but inferring goods on sale are stolen is disgraceful. They takes two forms of recent ID before purchase and some branches photograph all sellers to deter would-be sellers of stolen goods. As for poor prices, you take it or leave it. |
