Advantages: prices
Disadvantages: some staff - some shops
we have six charity shops where I live and sometimes I take a moring off to have a good look round.
They vary a lot in several ways -
1.the staff- some are very friendly and helpful and some seem to want to show how 'do-gooders' behave - I used to work at Sue Ryder and never had that attitude!
2. The shops - some are refurbished when taken over but personally I think too much money has been spent on the decor - should have gone to the charity?
-others are a bit dingy, dark & dare I say a bit smelly?
3. The prices - some are very reasonably priced but others are being silly (Oxfam for example) with their pricing - if folk pay less they are more likely to return to shop and to re-donate the books aren't they?It would be great if they could extend opening hours by 30 mins-one hour instead of closing before the other non-charity shops?
Summary: charity shops are not all the same

- 30/06/08 We also have quite a few Charity Shops locally but they have recently all put their prices up - so they have lost a lot of customers |

- 29/06/08 I can usually pick up a few books and dvd's at my local charity shops........... |

- 29/06/08 I bought some beautiful candles in PDSA yesterday which will be perfect for my dinner party next Sunday, they were only 70p each and I think the same ones elsewhere would have cost me about £4 or £5. |
