Charity Shops in general

Newest Review: ... and the stuff on display was a bit like a jumble sale, however the staff were friendly and helped me to find something suitable for my neice to wear. The trousers I brought cost me £1 and were a pair of next combats in pink. I would have prefered to have given them a wash first but needs must.. I have since been back to that shop and got a few good bargains. The other charity shops are a little more modern and not unpleasent to visit. You do get a mixed crowd in them nowadays, from the stereotypical o.a.p to young students. The local charity shops on the high street in Bletchley are Rspca, Mind, Cancer research, Extra care, Age conc... more

I was a charity shop snob, until about 2 years ago. I was quite happy though to buy off ebay. It was only when my neice wet herself when I was shopping did I pop into one to see if they had any trousers in her size. I wouldn't say it was the best shopping experience I have ever had. The shop smelt and the stuff on display was a bit like a jumble sale, however the staff were friendly and helped me to find something suitable for my neice to wear. Premium Review Charity Does Begin at Home (1042 words)

I had never even thought of entering a charity shop until a few years ago. I always thought I couldn't wear other people's clothes or use their discarded goods. That is, until my sister volunteered to manage a charity shop that was opening in her local community to support pensioners in their village. Since then, a whole new shopping world has opened up to me. My review, therefore, is going to be from the other side of the counter which a lot of people never see. If you are going to donate items, I would ask you to firstly give some thought as to which charity you wish to donate. The majority of people choose the charity shop which is nearest to them. ...  Read the complete review

CHARITY SHOPS IN GENERAL. Well having today visited my local Oxfam charity shop, it is a great way to either give a little bit back to society, and instead of throwing away all those unwanted clothes, dvds, and other household items you no longer want, why not donate these to a worthwhile cause. All charity shops will welcome any items from your unwanted collection, and put the money they raise to good use, with these Charity Organisations, who have to obviously take out firstly the overheads and running costs for the shops, where they sell these items, then they will put the rest towards their registered charity, and thats a very good ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Charity shops; what's not good about them?! (343 words)

As a bargain hunter, I have often bought books from the Oxfam book shop on byres road, which was my first real introduction to charity shops. The shop has seats to sit in and read books, lots of staff, well organised and plentiful stock and a great atmosphere. As I had been looking for a job for a while, I recently decided to try out some voluntary work at a charity shop in town; Cancer Research UK. The branch is really nice, and doesn't actually feel like a charity shop. There is a large selection of books, a sections for women's clothes, men's clothes, children's clothes and bric a brac, as well as toys and cancer research umbrellas, cards, gifts ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Charity Shops in general: A Charity Shop Run By The Community (392 words)

I have always been a lover of charity shops, every one loves a bargain and of course it is raising money for a needy cause. There are quite a lot of them on every high street in Britain today, and most are run by volunteer staff, but the main ones like Cancer Research and Oxfam pay a full time wage to a person to oversee the running of the shop. This is quite a chunk of the profit but they feel that somebody has to over see the shop to ensure that it is running correctly. I can understand the reasoning behind it but a charity shop can run without paid staff. My reason for this review is because I have been helping a shop in my home town, ...  Read the complete review
