Advantages: bargains to be had if you look regularly

Disadvantages: paying staff reduces charitys profits

Charity shops are the original green recyclers. They are a great place to pick up clothes, as well as dvds and many other usefull household items as well as my favourite items books.

I've picked up some lovely trousers and handbags in the one near me which were brand new with the tags still on for a fraction of the cost they would have cost from the original supplier.

You also get the benefit of knowing you've helped a deserving cause. They are fabulous places to visit especially if you have "evergrowing children" as they all are! because if you pop in on a regular basis you can pick up some times hardly worn kids clothes for your little treasures.

Of course they also love to recieve your donations of good quality clothing ,books and furniture. Ours will arrange to pick up large pieces of furniture from your home for them to sell in their shops (as long as you dont mind waiting a week or two ) so try to donate suitable items to them if you can instead of putting things out for the refuse collector.

The only thing i have become aware of latley is that most people are paid to work in charity shops these days instead of doing so voluntarily .

Whilst i'm not against people gaining a worthwhile job , how much profit is left in the tills at the end of the day for the charity when staff wages have been deducted?

Summary: recycling usable goods that would end up in landfill

no i overheard some workers saying to each other the rate they were on £6 odd each,
i've also seen jobs for workers advertised in local paper around the £6 mark not for just management the normal workers as well

I thought it was only the managers who were paid, aren't the 'normal' workers still volunteers?
