Advantages: you can still pick up a bargin

charity shops have come along way from the old image, that only poor people would go into charity shops and buy other people's cast offs,as they could not afford anything else.


The shops themselves have also changed from the cluttered and musky smell that they once were, to very trendy decor, so they can compete with the high street chain stores.

In the present climate of recession, and more and more people now becoming 'greener' in their attitude to recycling etc, Charity shops are now the 'in' place to be seen, there is no longer the old stigma attached to buying pre-worn clothes, in fact it is quite fashionable and trendy. With even big celebrities cashing in on the bargins.

But unfortunately not only are the celebs cashing in on this, the charity shops are too. I have noticed over the last few years the well known charities have in my opinion out priced themselves. On a few occasions the price of an item of clothing as been more expensive secondhand in the charity shop, than when it was new!!!!!!

As for the bric-a-brac etc, you find they are also over-priced too,

I tend to only use the small local independant charity shops now, as they tend to be cheaper, and not so commercialised, and still have that 'rummage' factor, when you are browsing through the shop.

Summary: great way of recycling and saving money too
