Advantages: Cheap clothes, good for dressing up
Disadvantages: Sometimes nasty donations!
I love shopping in charity shops. I used to work in an Age Concern one, and really enjoyed the experience.
Charity shops are actually full of good quality stuff, I know this because when we used to receive donations in the shop it was my job to go through and throw away anything dirty, smelly, or not saleable. Then if there was anything that I thought was valuble it got sent to a valuations person who then told us if it was or not, and would give us a price to put on it.
I then got to pick anything I liked before it went on the shop floor, and everything else I had to price, tag, and put in the shop.
I have found some horrible stuff in donation bags like dirty pants, old smelly BO smelling clothes, and just smashed glass inbetween everything.
The people who work in the charity shops are all volunteers apart from managment, and the people I worked with were really nice. Sometimes you got customers who were very unfriendly and rude, just remember that the voluteers are there in their own time, and you should always be nice to them!
Charity shops like Marie Curie, Age Concern, British heart foundation, and oxfam sell a range of goods such as clothes, bric a brac, cds, dvds, books and videos. If you like vintage clothes or want a dressing up outfit then there could be something good in a charity shop that wont cost you too much money.
The best thing about spending money in a charity shop is that a lot of the money goes to the charity to help. Guilt free spending!
Summary: Try working in one!
